We are looking for a Field Applications Engineer who is a highly trained technical professional responsible for positioning Standex as the trusted design partner for our strategic customers. In this role, you will work to qualify opportunities, own and deliver the final technical proposal, and be responsible for managing and fostering engineering relationships with end customers and strategic industry partners. Cross-functional coordination is a key function of this role. A successful Field Applications Engineer is a technical facilitator who can bridge the gap between internal and external technical and commercial teams.

What You’ll Do
  • Build the technical brand of Standex EDGE.
  • Qualify opportunities to ensure that engineering bandwidth is allocated appropriately
  • Deliver competitive solutions in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Ensure that proposals are margin accretive
  • Enable the commercial team to solve customer problems in real time
  • Develop and maintain standard work to help improve the fidelity of the Standex engineering solution.
  • Stay on top of industry trends to ensure that Standex is positioned as a technical leader
  • Work with marketing to write and publish technical white papers
  • Work with Customer and Standex Engineering to deliver magnetic solutions to ensure that our customers' programs launch on time and on budget.
  • Serve as an expert partner for guidance on proper regulatory compliance and Isolation techniques.
  • Help customers solve EMI/EMC challenges before they occur
  • Leverage problem-solving skills to find solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Support new product development and innovation projects as required.
  • Support and lead continuous improvement activities to improve processes within the organization and leverage synergies across multiple sites.
  • Develop and implement best practices, standards, policies, and procedures for the engineering department.
  • Support the implementation and use of lean methodologies such as Daily Visual Management, A3 Problem Solving, and Kaizen.
  • Monitor KPIs to communicate and improve organizational performance.
  • Attend trade shows, conferences, and conduct supplier visits as required.
  • Stay abreast of new developments in technology.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of applicable codes and regulations.
  • Lead from the front to help realize the vision/mission of Standex: “To be the benchmark for engineering excellence in the magnetics industry, recognized for our technical capability, delivering effective and efficient services, with the appropriate level of responsiveness and accuracy.”
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Power Electronics.
  • Direct experience and qualifications will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering program.
  • 2+ experience in designing & developing custom electromagnetic components and systems.
  • Power/RF Magnetics (Inductors and Transformers), power electronics, capacitors, or semiconductor background desired.
  • Strong level of business acumen and the ability to understand various business scenarios.
  • Experience with International and United States Safety Standards (i.e., IEC/UL).
  • Knowledge of applicable Military Specifications for Magnetic Components.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in managing projects of various sizes and complexity.
  • Willingness to learn lean methodologies and strive for continuous improvement is necessary.
  • Ability to travel 25%
What We Value
  • System-level design will be a plus.
  • Expertise in coil, transformer, and inductor design.
  • Knowledge of power supply design.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability.
  • Understanding of 2D/3D Modeling Software, Finite Element Analysis, and Simulation Software.
  • Strong self-management skills, including accountability, goal setting, self-motivation, and time management.
  • Strong organizational skills with a process-oriented mindset.
