Position Summary:
The Field ASME Welder / Supervisor is responsible for performing high-quality code welding and overseeing field welding operations in compliance with ASME Section I, VIII, and IX standards. This role combines hands-on welding with leadership responsibilities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to strict code and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Welding & Fabrication
- Perform SMAW, GTAW (TIG), and FCAW welding on pressure vessels, boilers, and piping systems
- Execute welds in all positions in accordance with ASME code requirements
- Interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications)
- Ensure proper material preparation, fit-up, and pre/post-weld heat treatment requirements
Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise and coordinate field welders and helpers on job sites
- Assign daily tasks and ensure productivity and workmanship standards are met
- Train and mentor junior welders on ASME code practices
- Act as liaison between field crews, project managers, and QA/QC personnel
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all welding meets ASME code and project specifications
- Verify welder qualifications and maintain compliance with WPS/PQR requirements
- Coordinate with inspectors for NDE (X-ray, UT, PT, MT) testing
- Maintain weld logs, traceability records, and documentation
Safety
- Enforce company and OSHA safety policies on all job sites
- Conduct job hazard analyses (JHA) and safety meetings
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safe handling of equipment and materials
Project Execution
- Assist in project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation
- Monitor job progress and report status to management
- Troubleshoot field issues and implement corrective actions
Qualifications
Required:
- ASME code welding experience (Section I, VIII, IX)
- Current or recent ASME welding certifications
- 5–10+ years of field welding experience (boilers, pressure vessels, or piping)
- 2–5+ years of supervisory or lead experience
- Strong knowledge of WPS, PQRs, and welder qualification processes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Pass DOT medical exam with drug screening for driving commercial vehicles
- Able to clear government background checks
- Driving record free of serious violations
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
Preferred:
- Experience with firetube or watertube boilers
- Knowledge of National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) compliance
- Hold a Class 4 and 5 Oregon boiler license
- NCCER certification or equivalent
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification
- Experience managing multi-crew field operations

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
