The mine is accessed via company transportation including bus rides and a boat ride through Lynn Canal.

About the Job:

The Field IT Technician will report to the IT Superintendent and is responsible for mine site needs as related to IT Department assets, workstations, laptops, mobile devices, infrastructure, as well as general hardware and software needs, focusing on direct end user support. The schedule for this position is 8 days on at the mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 6 days off.

Responsibilities:

  • Stop work for safety concerns, and abide by safety best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Use of exceptional communication and customer service skills to build and maintain relationships with users and departments.
  • Ensures adherence to company policy while maintaining specific knowledge of IT policies and procedures.
  • Performs Installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of on-premise Windows and Linux based virtual server systems.
  • Performs maintenance, troubleshooting and reporting for on-premise backup infrastructure.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
  • Focuses on providing technical support to end-users directly and remotely, leveraging ticketing systems to correctly document and complete tasks.
  • Performs systems setup, installation, and upgrades of hardware and software.
  • Maintains asset inventory and inventory refresh lifecycle.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains IT Department assets, including but not limited to; workstations, laptops, mobile devices, phones, WAPs, printers, copiers, etc
  • Conducts end user training as required.
  • Assists in maintaining all mine communication systems.
  • Installation and testing of IT infrastructure, including structured cabling, Fiber Optics and fixed wireless.
  • Maintains documentation on current policies and procedure changes.
  • Maintains working knowledge of current systems and tools used by the company and provides reports using these in a timely fashion.
  • Works with the Environmental Dept to ensure E-Waste is processed properly.
  • Assists other members of the IT department in their duties as prescribed by management and maintains flexible on-call weekend rotation status.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Ability to work safely and promote safe behavior in others.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Excellent safety, attendance, and work records.
  • Hold A+ certification or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Net+ certification or equivalent experience within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience in hardware maintenance, MS Active Directory, Exchange Online, Windows OS, and MS Office 365.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and communicate clearly (verbally and in writing) with all mine site personnel.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Ability to troubleshoot IT systems, communication issues, and deliver resolutions effectively.
  • Ability to lift and move 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.
  • Ability to safely load and operate vehicles in a variety of conditions including but not limited to; heavy rain, snow, and varying underground conditions.
  • Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • 2+ Years of experience maintaining IT operations for mid-size to large technical environments desired.
  • Knowledge of servers and networking in cloud, physical and virtual environments is desired.
  • Fiber Optic and Copper installation, termination, and testing experience is desired.
  • Experience with the following systems desired:
    • MS SharePoint
    • VMWare/vSphere
    • Goto Connect Telephony Systems
    • Cisco and/or Juniper Network Solutions
    • Linux
    • Ubiquiti Wired/Wireless Systems
    • Windows 11 Ent
    • FreshService
    • MS InTune
  • Preference given to Alaska residents.
