Turnagain Marine Construction (TMC) is an Anchorage-based marine and heavy civil contractor specializing in the design and construction of waterfront and offshore infrastructure throughout Alaska. Founded in 2014, TMC delivers ports, piers, moorings, and other complex marine projects through an integrated design-build approach. We take pride in building durable infrastructure in some of the most challenging marine and remote environments in the state.

About the Role

We’re looking for a hands-on Field Safety Specialist to join our marine construction team in Alaska. This person will spend most of their time out in the field—on docks, barges, remote sites, and job sites around the state—helping our crews work safely and efficiently.

You’ll be part of the team that keeps our people safe on the job every day. If you know construction, understand marine work, and can connect with field crews, this could be a great fit.

What You’ll Do

• Be out in the field supporting day-to-day safety on active marine and heavy civil construction projects.
• Help supervisors and crews plan work safely, review JHAs/AHAs and talk through potential hazards before work starts.
• Watch for and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors; work with crews to find practical solutions.
• Lead daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and new-hire orientations.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits; follow up on any corrective actions.
• Respond to incidents, help with investigations, and work on root cause analysis and corrective measures.
• Make sure we’re following OSHA, EM 385-1-1, USCG, and company safety standards.
• Support emergency drills and environmental protection on job sites.
• Communicate clearly with management, superintendents, and the safety team about site conditions and safety performance.

Qualifications

Required:

• Minimum 3–5 years of construction safety experience (marine, heavy civil, or industrial preferred).
• Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926, 1910, and EM 385-1-1.
• Experience working in marine environments (barges, cranes, pile driving, waterfronts, or similar).
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in remote and sometimes harsh environmental conditions.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel statewide.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Professional safety certifications (e.g., CHST, CSHO, STSC, ASP, CSP).
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction and/or EM 385-1-1 40-Hour training.
• Prior experience supporting USACE or DOT marine construction projects.
• Familiarity with confined space, fall protection, crane and rigging, and vessel operations safety.

Work Environment

• 85% Travel / 15% in office. This is a field position expect travel and time outdoors in all kinds of Alaska weather.
• Some remote projects will require travel and extended stays away from home.
• You’ll be working closely with crews, superintendents, and project managers on active jobsites.

Pay: $92,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
