Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Field Systems Technician with extensive experience in fiber-optic infrastructure, industrial networking, and systems support within high-volume manufacturing environments. This role requires a hands-on technical expert who can also lead multiple field teams, oversee large-scale installations, and ensure reliable system performance across complex production operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Fiber & Infrastructure

  • Lead installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of single-mode and multi-mode fiber in manufacturing and industrial environments.
  • Perform OTDR, power meter, and light-source testing to validate link integrity and documentation compliance.
  • Oversee fiber repairs, splicing activities, and rack/cabinet builds.
  • Develop and enforce fiber-optic standards, labeling, routes, and long-term plant infrastructure design.

Networking & Systems Support

  • Install, configure, and support Layer 2/Layer 3 switches, routers, firewalls, access points, and industrial network devices.
  • Diagnose network performance issues and support high-uptime requirements for automation, SCADA, MES, and manufacturing control systems.
  • Maintain network segmentation, VLANs, QoS, device hardening, and uptime monitoring.
  • Integrate and support connected equipment such as PLCs, HMIs, drives, and plant-floor servers.

Leadership & Project Management

Lead and mentor multiple field teams across several sites or production lines.

  • Manage large-scale fiber/network rollout projects including scoping, resource planning, vendor coordination, and customer communication.
  • Ensure all field work follows safety, compliance, and manufacturing operational standards.
  • Provide escalation support and strategic recommendations to operations, engineering, and IT leadership.

Manufacturing Environment Responsibilities

Support production-critical systems during planned and unplanned outages.

  • Work with maintenance, engineering, automation, and IT to keep downtime to a minimum.
  • Document network diagrams, fiber maps, change logs, and system health.
  • Identify and implement improvements that increase reliability and reduce long-term cost.

Required Qualifications

  • 5–10+ years of experience in field service, fiber installation, or network systems support.
  • Strong hands-on experience with fiber termination, splicing, testing, and certification tools.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, VLANs, Wi-Fi, industrial Ethernet, and plant-floor network architectures.
  • Experience supporting systems in manufacturing, industrial automation, distribution centers, or similar environments.
  • Proven experience leading multiple teams, overseeing field techs, contractors, or project crews.
  • Comfortable with lifts, ladders, conduit pulling, cable trays, and industrial safety protocols.
  • Ability to read and create network diagrams, fiber route maps, and wiring schematics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Rockwell, Siemens, or industrial automation networks.
  • Network certifications (CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+, fiber certifications, etc.).
  • Experience with OTDRs, fusion splicers, Fluke certification tools.
  • Experience with manufacturing communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profinet).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity practices for OT/IT networks.

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership, delegation, and team-coordination abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure during production outages.
  • Strong documentation and organizational discipline.
