Senior Field Systems Technician — Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Field Systems Technician with extensive experience in fiber-optic infrastructure, industrial networking, and systems support within high-volume manufacturing environments. This role requires a hands-on technical expert who can also lead multiple field teams, oversee large-scale installations, and ensure reliable system performance across complex production operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Fiber & Infrastructure
- Lead installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of single-mode and multi-mode fiber in manufacturing and industrial environments.
- Perform OTDR, power meter, and light-source testing to validate link integrity and documentation compliance.
- Oversee fiber repairs, splicing activities, and rack/cabinet builds.
- Develop and enforce fiber-optic standards, labeling, routes, and long-term plant infrastructure design.
Networking & Systems Support
- Install, configure, and support Layer 2/Layer 3 switches, routers, firewalls, access points, and industrial network devices.
- Diagnose network performance issues and support high-uptime requirements for automation, SCADA, MES, and manufacturing control systems.
- Maintain network segmentation, VLANs, QoS, device hardening, and uptime monitoring.
- Integrate and support connected equipment such as PLCs, HMIs, drives, and plant-floor servers.
Leadership & Project Management
Lead and mentor multiple field teams across several sites or production lines.
- Manage large-scale fiber/network rollout projects including scoping, resource planning, vendor coordination, and customer communication.
- Ensure all field work follows safety, compliance, and manufacturing operational standards.
- Provide escalation support and strategic recommendations to operations, engineering, and IT leadership.
Manufacturing Environment Responsibilities
Support production-critical systems during planned and unplanned outages.
- Work with maintenance, engineering, automation, and IT to keep downtime to a minimum.
- Document network diagrams, fiber maps, change logs, and system health.
- Identify and implement improvements that increase reliability and reduce long-term cost.
Required Qualifications
- 5–10+ years of experience in field service, fiber installation, or network systems support.
- Strong hands-on experience with fiber termination, splicing, testing, and certification tools.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, VLANs, Wi-Fi, industrial Ethernet, and plant-floor network architectures.
- Experience supporting systems in manufacturing, industrial automation, distribution centers, or similar environments.
- Proven experience leading multiple teams, overseeing field techs, contractors, or project crews.
- Comfortable with lifts, ladders, conduit pulling, cable trays, and industrial safety protocols.
- Ability to read and create network diagrams, fiber route maps, and wiring schematics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Rockwell, Siemens, or industrial automation networks.
- Network certifications (CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+, fiber certifications, etc.).
- Experience with OTDRs, fusion splicers, Fluke certification tools.
- Experience with manufacturing communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profinet).
- Familiarity with cybersecurity practices for OT/IT networks.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
