Position Summary
Carmichael Development is seeking an experienced Field Superintendent to oversee multiple civil construction projects and field crews throughout our service area. The Field Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing daily field operations while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to company quality standards.
This position requires extensive field presence, regular travel between job sites, strong leadership skills, and significant experience in grading, site development, underground utilities, and heavy civil construction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Project & Field Operations
- Oversee multiple active construction projects simultaneously.
- Coordinate daily activities of superintendents, foremen, operators, laborers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Ensure projects are executed according to plans, specifications, schedules, and company standards.
- Monitor production goals and adjust manpower and equipment resources as needed.
- Conduct regular job site visits to assess progress, productivity, safety, and quality.
- Assist project managers with project planning, scheduling, and execution.
- Identify and resolve field issues before they impact project timelines or budgets.
Crew Leadership & Management
- Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and accountability to field personnel.
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, and development of field employees.
- Promote a positive work environment focused on teamwork, professionalism, and accountability.
- Ensure crews are properly staffed and equipped to perform assigned work.
Cost Control & Productivity
- Monitor labor productivity and equipment utilization across all assigned projects.
- Review job costs and production reports regularly.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs.
- Work closely with project management to ensure projects remain within budget.
- Monitor material usage and help prevent waste, theft, or misuse of company resources.
Timekeeping & Documentation
- Review and approve employee timecards for accuracy and proper job cost coding.
- Ensure labor hours, equipment hours, and production quantities are properly documented.
- Verify daily reports are completed accurately and submitted on time.
- Maintain project records and documentation as required.
Equipment & Operations
- Maintain working knowledge of heavy equipment operation and production capabilities.
- Assist with equipment allocation and utilization across projects.
- Monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance needs with fleet personnel.
- Provide operational support when necessary.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce Carmichael Development's safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct job site inspections and safety observations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective action planning.
- Lead by example in maintaining a safe work environment.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Represent Carmichael Development professionally with owners, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Assist in resolving project-related concerns and maintaining positive client relationships.
- Participate in project meetings as needed.
