Position Summary

The Field Technician IV provides advanced technical expertise and operational leadership supporting Air Education and Training Command (AETC) field services operations at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Randolph AFB.

This position serves as the primary technical authority and escalation point for complex IT incidents impacting enterprise desktop systems, network-connected devices, collaboration platforms, and end-user computing environments. The Field Technician IV works closely with the Program Manager I (On-Site Lead) to ensure the delivery of reliable, secure, and compliant IT services across supported AETC directorates.

The Field Technician IV also provides technical mentorship and coordination for field service technicians, ensuring adherence to Air Force IT standards, cybersecurity policies, and service delivery requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Technical LeadershipEscalation Support

  • Serve as the senior technical escalation point for complex hardware, software, and network-related issues.
  • Provide Tier III and Tier IV technical support for enterprise IT systems supporting AETC personnel.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for high-impact system incidents.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to field technicians across all levels.

Enterprise IT Support

  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows-based operating systems, enterprise applications, and workstation configurations.
  • Support troubleshooting and maintenance of network connectivity, peripheral devices, and enterprise desktop systems.
  • Support configuration and troubleshooting of Video Teleconferencing (VTC) systems and collaboration platforms.
  • Coordinate with the Air Force Enterprise Service Desk and enterprise support teams to resolve escalated technical issues.

CybersecurityCompliance

  • Ensure supported systems comply with Department of the Air Force cybersecurity policies and directives, including:
    • DAFMAN 17-1203
    • DoDM 8140.03 workforce requirements
    • AFSSI 8580
    • Tasking Orders and Cybersecurity Directives (TCNOs)
  • Support remediation of vulnerability findings and system compliance requirements.
  • Ensure systems are configured according to approved security baselines and configuration management policies.

AssetConfiguration Management

  • Provide oversight for IT asset lifecycle management activities, including equipment deployment, replacement, and disposition.
  • Ensure accurate accountability of Government IT equipment within the Defense Property Accountability System (DPAS).
  • Assist the Property Custodian with annual and special inventories in coordination with the Base Equipment Control Officer (BECO).

Service DeliveryOperations

  • Monitor incident and service request resolution within the Enterprise IT Service Management (EITSM) system.
  • Identify service trends and recommend process improvements to enhance system performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Assist the Program Manager in maintaining operational continuity and technical readiness of the field services team.

Required Qualifications

  • DoDM 8140.03 Intermediate proficiency level certification (minimum).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience supporting enterprise IT environments, preferably within a DoD or federal environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience providing advanced technical support or technical leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical experience may be substituted.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting:
    • Windows enterprise desktop environments
    • Enterprise LAN connectivity and troubleshooting
    • Desktop hardware and peripheral systems
    • Enterprise collaboration and VTC systems
  • Experience supporting IT service management platforms and ticket escalation processes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues within mission-critical environments.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Air Force communications or AETC organizations.
  • ITIL Foundation or higher certification.
  • Experience with Defense Property Accountability System (DPAS) or IT asset management systems.
  • Experience supporting large enterprise environments (1,000+ users).
  • Microsoft or enterprise systems certifications.
