Position Summary
The Installation Technician I is responsible for safely fabricating, inspecting, and installing fall protection systems within budgeted timeframes. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, adaptability to changing site conditions, and a detail-oriented mindset. Professional communication and customer service are essential when interacting with clients and team members. This position involves frequent travel—up to 95% of working hours—and offers regular opportunities for overtime. Installation Technicians play a key role in delivering high-quality fall protection solutions to meet customer safety needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with layout and installation of fall protection systems on job sites nationwide under the direction of Project Managers.
- Support Installation Supervisors and Field Foremen with project tasks, including job packing, inventory tracking, and tool organization.
- Perform AWS D1.1-compliant field welding using SMAW (stick) in flat, vertical, and overhead positions; prep and clean steel prior to welding.
- Ensure welds meet CWI inspection standards; document with gauge photos and apply cold galvanizing compound post-inspection.
- Read and interpret construction drawings to ensure accurate placement of components and compliance with plans.
- Conduct equipment testing and certification under supervision in line with engineering specifications.
- Complete and submit accurate project documentation, including redlines, test logs, safety records, daily reports, and site photos.
- Maintain precise records of time worked, per diem, and travel activity.
- Adhere to all company, site-specific, and welding safety protocols; maintain proper PPE.
- Show initiative, strong work ethic, and a commitment to continuous skill development and performance improvement.

Required Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and general construction practices
- Strong commitment to safety and ability to follow established procedures and instructions
- Willingness and ability to work in varying field conditions, including rooftops and extreme temperatures
- Physically capable of lifting up to 75 lbs. and meeting PPE requirements (PPE provided)
- AWS D1.1 welding for stick in all positions (flat, vertical, overhead)
- LA City D1.1 welding certification
- Read engineered drawings, blueprints, plans, and tape measure
- Flexible and adaptable to schedule changes, travel demands (up to 95%), and dynamic job site conditions
- Reliable transportation to job sites and airports; must possess a smartphone capable of running required apps (e.g., Outlook, Teams, HCMToGo)
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented team player with strong customer service focus and leadership potential
- Eagerness to learn field construction methods and contribute positively to a team-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade school graduate and/or higher-level education
- LA City Semi-Auto certification
- Fabrication, installation and/or construction-related experience
- Field construction means and methods background
- Experience with ironworking tools: mag drills, port-a-band, drill, etc.
- Experience with scissor lifts, aerial lifts, forklifts
- AISC Steel Construction, foundations, Hilti anchor knowledge
- OSHA/ANSI Fall Protection standards knowledge

- Valid Driver’s License & Evidence of Ability to Insure

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to regularly lift and maneuver up to 75 lbs without assistance and perform strenuous physical labor for 8+ hours per day, including climbing, overhead work, kneeling, squatting, crawling, pulling, and heavy lifting, often at elevation or while suspended from structures.
- Requires frequent and extended climbing of ladders, towers, scaffolding, and buildings, and working suspended in fall protection harnesses, sometimes in awkward or confined positions, and often on sloped, uneven, or unstable surfaces with minimal guardrails.
- Must tolerate extreme environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, direct sunlight, airborne particles, dust, fumes, vibration, and mechanical hazards.
- Requires full range of motion, physical agility, and strong fine/gross motor coordination to navigate tight spaces, transition across structural elements, and operate hand and power tools safely at height.
- Must adhere to strict safety protocols and be able to wear and function in required PPE for extended periods, including but not limited to harnesses, helmets, respirators, gloves, durable long pants and steel-toed boots.
- Must have the ability to travel up to 95%, including to all 50 states and international destinations (valid passport required if eligible), and possess visual and auditory acuity to detect hazards and ensure safety compliance.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position. The work schedule for this position varies depending on client location and operational requirements. This position may require hours beyond standard working hours to satisfy job duties and department demand.
