Position Overview

The Field Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welding and installation of steel components on active construction sites. This role requires experience in reading blueprints, field fitting, and safely executing work to meet project specifications, deadlines, and safety standards.

You’ll work closely with our Field Foreman, General Foreman, and Superintendent to ensure seamless coordination between shop production and field installation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural, architectural, and miscellaneous steel welding in the field according to project drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and weld symbols accurately.
  • Set up, fit, and install steel components (beams, stairs, railings, embeds, etc.).
  • Operate and maintain welding and cutting equipment (SMAW, MIG, oxy-fuel, plasma).
  • Perform on-site measurements, layout, and adjustments as required.
  • Work independently or as part of a field crew to complete installations safely and efficiently.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper PPE use and jobsite compliance.
  • Collaborate with project leads and shop teams to resolve fit-up or design issues.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in clean, safe working condition.
  • Represent LCI with professionalism and quality workmanship on every job.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of field welding and steel installation experience preferred.
  • Proficient in SMAW (stick) welding, FCAW is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, weld symbols, and measurements.
  • Current AWS D1.1 certification preferred (or ability to certify upon hire).
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and pass a drug test.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience installing handrails, stairs, canopies, structural frames, or embeds.
  • Knowledge of rigging, crane signals, and field alignment.
  • Familiarity with grinding, cutting, and finishing processes.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
