Field Welder / Fitter

Wages are dependent upon a history of relevant field experience. Wage increases are based on a merit-shop environment. Job sites are located throughout Northern New England.

A Field Welder / Fitter is a skilled craft position working on civil, industrial, and commercial construction sites. This person fits, rigs, erects, and welds steel stock and components to construct all manner of permanent and temporary structures such as buildings, structural support frameworks, penstocks, draft tubes, tanks, boilers, and vessels. A Field Welder / Fitter will help on other job site tasks, including those of a construction worker, when not welding.

The position requires heavy physical work under all environmental conditions. Good physical conditioning is important to success in the position. Experience using all types of hand tools, portable power tools and some heavy equipment (for example industrial lift truck and extendable boom forklifts) is required. As pre-condition of employment, a Field Welder / Fitter passes, and, at all times during employment, maintains ability to pass ASME Section IX structural welding tests in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions (approximately equivalent to AWS D.1.1). It is preferred this person can pass ASME Section IX pipe welding tests in 6g for carbon and stainless tubing.

Regardless of prior formal training or experience, a Field Welder / Fitter must demonstrate on the job, the ability to carry out or to quickly learn and competently execute, all essential functions of the position.

The position requires travel within New England -- either a driver’s license and reliable vehicle, or a practical alternative plan for getting to the jobsite, is a requirement of the job.
