Finance Associate

Reports To: Controller, Publisher

POSITION SUMMARY

The Finance Associate supports the day-to-day financial operations of LJMN Media, Inc., a nonprofit news organization which publishes The Lakeville Journal and The Millerton News. This role works closely with the Controller and the Publisher and is responsible for accounts payable and receivable, processing deposits, payroll coordination, reconciliations, circulation support, and general customer service.

The ideal candidate is organized, discreet, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, hybrid environment. They should demonstrate a solid understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles, be proficient in QuickBooks or similar software, and communicate effectively with both colleagues and the public. A commitment to the mission of community journalism is essential, as the Finance Associate plays a key role in supporting the financial health and long-term sustainability of our organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process deposits, including advertising, circulation, donations.
  • Manage accounts receivable and payable; assist with customer service and collections.
  • Coordinate bi-weekly payroll, including processing time cards.
  • Provide HR support, including maintaining employee personnel files.
  • Prepare affidavits for legal notices.
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
  • Generate advertising and circulation billing as needed.
  • Maintain digital and physical records, including scanning and filing.
  • Handle banking tasks and mail distribution as required.
  • Assist with audits and reconciliations.
  • Provide administrative support to the COO, Sales and Editorial departments.
  • Comply with all company policies and safety rules.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

EDUCATION & SKILLS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred.
  • Experience with Excel and Quickbooks Online (or similar software).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods with appropriate breaks
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Typical office environment with occasional local errands (e.g., banking, mail)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $44,000.00 per year
