POSITION TITLE: Financial Aid Assistant (Part Time - SUNY Reconnect)
REPORTS TO: Director of Financial Aid
SUPERVISES: N/A
BASIC FUNCTIONS: The Financial Aid Assistant - SUNY Reconnect works towards ensuring smooth operations and a seamless enrollment experience for students by providing diligent administration of the SUNY Reconnect program and associated Federal and State financial aid programs for adult students.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Confirm the completion of New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) applications for all Reconnect program participants.
Audit financial aid packages to verify eligibility against institutional charges, ensuring all fees, including finalized books and supplies charges, are accurately covered.
Ensure accurate evaluation of student eligibility through prior degree auditing and monitoring changes in enrollment or program of study, adjusting aid awards accordingly to ensure compliance.
Accurately record and post SUNY Reconnect fund disbursements within the Banner Financial Aid module, tracking changes to schedules or programs and adjusting aid awards accordingly to ensure compliance.
Accurately collect, report, and reconcile data using mechanisms to ensure data accuracy and consistency, including spreadsheets and Banner attributes.
Conduct phone and email outreach to students with outstanding requirements or incomplete documentation to support successful completion of the financial aid process to prevent funding delays.
Conduct presentations or tabling events such as Reconnect Information Sessions, Open Houses, Registration Days, and other Admissions or Financial Aid related events.
Monitor and respond to inquiries from the financial aid e-mail account.
Counsel students regarding college costs and financial aid eligibility.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
Associate's degree
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Ability to work independently as well as part of a diverse, dynamic team of professionals
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
Experience working in a financial aid office or other collegiate department
Bachelor's degree
SALARY RANGE: $23.85 per hour (21 hours per week)
