Financial Analyst

Job Purpose: The Financial Analyst collaborates with Finance and Operations leadership to evaluate, monitor, and strengthen CFI’s financial performance across programs and affiliates. This role supports budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, revenue analysis, and internal control processes to ensure fiscal integrity and operational efficiency.

The Financial Analyst is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial data, identifying trends and variances, supporting month-end close processes, and providing actionable insights to leadership. This position plays a critical role in supporting agency-wide strategic initiatives, financial system optimization, and continuous process improvement.

This role works closely with program leadership, accounting staff, compliance, and executive leadership to support informed decision-making and financial sustainability.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including budget-to-actual variance analysis by program, department, and cost center.
  • Assist with the annual budget development process and multi-year financial projections.
  • Support monthly and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting schedules.
  • Monitor key financial performance indicators (KPIs) such as revenue, expenses, productivity metrics, occupancy, and margin performance.
  • Analyze revenue streams, including Medicaid, managed care, grants, and other funding sources to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving financial models related to staffing, productivity, reimbursement rates, and service volumes.
  • Support audit preparation by compiling requested schedules, documentation, and financial analysis.
  • Assist with internal control documentation and process improvement initiatives to strengthen compliance and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to explain financial results and identify opportunities for cost containment and revenue enhancement.
  • Support ERP and financial system implementation efforts, including report development, data validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial presentations and board-level reporting materials.
  • Other tasks, projects, or duties may be assigned as required according to departmental and business needs.

Required Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure and Credentials: (Where appropriate, education and/or experience may be substituted)

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field required. MBA preferred

Minimum Required Experience: 3–5 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, accounting, or nonprofit finance preferred; experience in healthcare of human services highly preferred

Required License – Certification – Registration: CPA or CMA preferred

Travel Type: Less than 10%

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Advanced analytical and financial modeling skills.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, financial modeling).
  • Ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate findings clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail with high standards of accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (Sage Intacct or similar preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Physical Requirements, Visual Acuity, and Work Conditions:

Physical Requirements: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Visual Acuity: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal.

Working Conditions: None: The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
