About the Opportunity:

The variable hour Financial Analyst performs financial, statistical, and budgetary analysis in support of the development, monitoring, and administration of the Sheriff's Office budget.


Variable Hour positions are at-will and hours are limited to 20 hours per week. These positions will accrue sick time and are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits.

Ideal Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Business or public budgeting, fiscal management, and administration.

  • Governmental finance and accounting practices, principles, and procedures.

  • Revenue and expenditure forecasting methods and models.

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Principles, practices, methods, and techniques of financial analysis and forecasting.

  • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws.

  • Grant administration

Skills to:

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing to convey information to others.

  • Exercise judgment in responding to and resolving complex issues.

  • Work accurately under pressure and time constraints.

  • Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Ability to:

  • Analyze, organize, and interpret data from various sources, draw logical conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.

  • Maintain and balance a variety of financial records, ledgers, accounts, and associated files.

  • Perform procedures in an organized and accurate manner.

  • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and groups who come from diverse backgrounds and represent members of the public, coworkers, and/or vendors.

  • Train and supervise clerical and accounting staff.

About the Department/Division:

The Business Administration Team provides HR liaison support, payroll and timekeeping, budgeting and financial support, contract coordination, and equipment and supply issuance for the Sheriff’s Office.

This role will provide direct support to the Sr. Financial Analyst and oversee grant administration at the Sheriff’s Office.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, or a related field; AND two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience performing budgetary or financial analysis, or auditing; OR

  • An Associate's Degree in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, or a related field; AND four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience performing budgetary or financial analysis, or auditing; OR

  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience performing budgetary or financial analysis, or auditing, of which at least four (4) years of experience must be in the public sector.

Additional Requirements

The selected finalist(s) for this position must be able to pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office. The background Investigation for this position typically take 6-8 weeks to complete so you will want to plan accordingly. The information that will be required when you complete the Personal History Statement includes, but is not limited to:

  • Employment Information (past 10 years or back to age 17; 3 co-workers will be requested from each past employer)

  • Residential Information (past 10 years or back to age 17)

  • Financial Information, which may include a credit check.

  • References (6 without using the same people as coworker or supervisor references)

  • Family Member Information

  • Driving History

  • Past/Present Drug Use and/or Controlled Substances

  • Criminal History
