Financial Controller - Metal Recycling Industry

About Us

TAS Recycling is a growing multi-state metal recycling company specializing in ferrous and non-ferrous material, with operations across Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida. We are expanding rapidly.

We are seeking a Controller with strong accounting experience and a background in the scrap metal or recycling industry to lead our financial operations and support our continued growth.

Position Summary

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, financial reporting, internal controls, forecasting, and compliance. This role requires hands-on experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, commodity-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-today accounting operations (AP, AR, payroll, general ledger)
• Strong knowledge of desktop QuickBooks
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Manage cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and all regulatory requirements
• Supervise and develop accounting staff across multiple locations
• Monitor and improve internal controls and processes
• Work closely with ownership on strategic planning and capital investments
• Support audits, tax fillings, and external reporting
• Track and analyze commodity pricing impact on margins
• Collaborate with operations to ensure accurate inventory and material tracking

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA preferred (not required but strongly valued)
• 5+ years of experience in accounting/finance leadership role
• Experience in scrap metal, metal recycling, or commodities industry REQUIRED
• Strong knowledge of inventory accounting and cost analysis
• Experience with desktop QuickBooks and ScrapRight
• Advanced Excel skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
