Financial Counselor-PRN

Make a Meaningful Impact Helping Patients Navigate Their Financial Journey

Rolling Hills Hospital is seeking a compassionate, detail‑oriented Financial Counselor (PRN) to support patients and families during their treatment experience. In this vital role, you will guide patients through financial assessments, insurance education, payment arrangements, and funding options—ensuring they feel informed, supported, and financially secure before discharge.

What You’ll Do

As a Financial Counselor, you will:

Financial Counseling & Patient Support

  • Conduct comprehensive financial assessments to determine ability to pay.
  • Communicate insurance benefits, claims processes, and self‑pay responsibilities clearly to patients and families.
  • Determine accurate third‑party and self‑pay liabilities for inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Secure upfront deposits and establish payment plans when needed.
  • Assist indigent patients with TennCare applications and other funding opportunities.
  • Prepare written out‑of‑pocket estimates and obtain administrative approvals as required.
  • Ensure every patient is financially secured prior to discharge.

Account Follow‑Up & Documentation

  • Perform timely follow‑up on self‑pay accounts—minimum every 30 days.
  • Contact guarantors within required timeframes upon admission.
  • Maintain accurate billing and demographic data; correct returned statements.
  • Coordinate accounts eligible for collections with the Business Office Manager.
  • Track charity applications, follow up every 7 days post‑discharge, and assist with documentation needs.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with clinical, admissions, and billing teams to ensure smooth financial processes.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and a supportive presence for patients during a stressful time.

Education/Training:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current Tennessee Driver's License

Experience:

  • 2 years of hospital admissions or collections experience (psychiatric setting preferred).
  • Strong communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal.
  • Ability to perform accurate financial calculations and explain them clearly.
  • Proficiency with computers and billing/insurance systems.
  • Ability to prioritize, stay organized, and work well in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Professionalism, patience, and strong customer service skills.
  • Collections and billing experience required, medical billing preferred.
