Work Location: Thornton Township – Not a remote position
Residency Requirement: Must currently reside in Thornton Township OR be willing to relocate within 3–6 months of hire.
Position Summary
The Financial Data Analyst is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting financial and operational data to support strategic planning, budgeting, and organizational decision-making. This role requires advanced analytical skills, strong proficiency with data tools, and the ability to communicate insights clearly. This position is fully on-site and requires residency within Thornton Township, or relocation within 3–6 months.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Operational Data Analysis

Analyze financial, operational, and historical data to identify trends, cost drivers, and performance indicators.

Develop and maintain standardized financial reports, dashboards, and scorecards for leadership.

Conduct variance analysis, forecasting, and scenario modeling.

Translate raw data findings into actionable insights and recommendations.
Data Modeling & Reporting Tools

Build and maintain financial models for budgeting, forecasting, labor analysis, and multi-year projections.

Create visualizations using BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).

Organize datasets for trend analysis, KPI tracking, and performance measurement.

Maintain documentation for data definitions, dashboards, and reporting processes.
Data Governance & Integrity

Ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity across financial data sources.

Extract, validate, and reconcile data from ERP systems, HRIS systems, and financial databases.

Develop processes for data quality control, error detection, and system audits.

Troubleshoot data discrepancies and work cross-departmentally to resolve issues.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Decision Support

Support annual budget preparation, mid-year revisions, and long-term planning.

Prepare forecasts for revenue, expenditures, capital needs, and workforce planning.

Conduct cost-benefit analysis and financial modeling for projects, grants, and operational initiatives.

Present analytical findings to leadership in a clear, non-technical manner.
Cross Department Collaboration

Work closely with Finance, Human Resources, Administration, and departmental managers to gather data and understand operational needs.

Provide data support for audits, compliance reporting, Board presentations, and grant submissions.

Assist departments in understanding financial impacts and performance trends.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.

2–4 years of experience in financial analysis, data analytics, or business intelligence.

Experience in government, municipal, or nonprofit financial analysis is preferred.
Technical Skills

Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, Power Query, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH, analytical formulas).

Experience with SQL for data extraction and querying.

Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.

Experience using ERP systems and financial software (SAP, Oracle, Tyler, etc.).

Understanding data structures, modeling, and analytics best practices.

Ability to perform statistical analysis and interpret large datasets.
