Financial Data Specialist

Job description

The Financial Data Analyst collects, reconciles, and analyzes member-submitted data to produce accurate financial and operational reporting. You’ll investigate anomalies, maintain data integrity, and coordinate directly with member companies to meet reporting deadlines and standards.

This is a hands-on role that blends analytical work with member communication. You’ll be comfortable investigating issues in spreadsheets and systems—and equally comfortable getting on a call to clarify requirements and resolve discrepancies.

Company Culture

With a collective goal of bringing people together and fostering value for our members, Study Groups’ culture is built on trust, service, and continuous improvement. We bring non-competing peers together in a trusted environment to share insights, solve problems, and improve performance. Since 1985, we’ve supported 700+ members across 325+ companies and maintain one of the industry’s most robust comparative databases—helping operators become more efficient and profitable.

Why This Role Matters

We’re adding this role in Q2 2026 as our member base and firm assignments expand. You’ll join our Data & Business Intelligence team and own the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial and operational reporting for a portfolio of member companies.

You’ll partner closely with business owners and finance leaders at member companies, as well as internal BI teammates, to resolve issues quickly and continuously improve how data is collected and reported.

Responsibilities

· Own data reporting requirements for assigned members; translate requirements into clear inputs, validations, and outputs.

· Collect, reconcile, and route financial and operational data for a portfolio of member companies, consistently meeting deadlines.

· Analyze submissions to identify trends, anomalies, and discrepancies; trace impacts through to report outputs.

· Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned members; communicate requirements proactively and resolve issues with business owners and finance leaders.

· Support onboarding of new member firms by teaching reporting standards and ensuring first submissions are accurate and complete.

· Identify and implement process improvements that reduce rework and improve data collection efficiency.

· Maintain and enhance team datasets and tools used to organize, validate, and report member data.

· Maintain data integrity and confidentiality; follow internal standards for accuracy and handling of member information.

· Collaborate with BI teammates on shared accounts, escalations, and special projects.

Skills Needed

· Advanced Excel skills (3+ years) working with complex financial datasets.

· Financial reporting fundamentals and comfort working with accounting concepts.

· Strong analytical and investigative skills—you enjoy finding root causes and fixing data issues.

· Member-facing communication—comfortable initiating outreach, clarifying requirements, and closing loops.

· Self-directed and adaptable—able to prioritize, make sound calls, and move work forward in a dynamic environment.

· Detail-oriented under deadline with strong organization and follow-through.

· Comfort switching contexts between focused data work and responsive member support.

· Nice to have: experience with Power BI or similar BI tools.

How You’ll Work
