The Opportunity:

The main objective of this position is to perform analysis and prepare reports related to monthly and annual financial reporting and the annual audit process. Serve as a go-to resource for operations and other field areas for understanding financial results and ensuring transparency to managers for their respective areas of responsibility. Manage the financial reporting framework as the principal subject matter expert for PeopleSoft nVision and query.

What You’ll Do: Responsibilities

  • Assists with the annual financial audit process for each of the three Port of Virginia legal entities.
  • Accumulates data for and draft the Port’s Annual Financial Report and other annual financial information required for reporting to the Virginia Department of Accounts.
  • Accumulates appropriations data and interfaces with the systems of the Commonwealth’s Department of Planning and Budget (DPB) with respect to entering Budget Execution Adjustments, Decision Packages, and other data required to be transmitted from the Authority to DPB
  • Executes monthly eliminations/consolidation and provides the monthly closing package to streamline the monthly results reviews prior to closing. Performs quality control on other monthly reporting outputs of the group and produces the final version of the monthly financial statements for presentation to the CEO, CFO, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides functional support to the budget process, including facilitation of budget data input and validation, as well as related reporting. Completes budget development for areas of responsibility.
  • Compiles necessary materials and analyses for the monthly briefing of operations for financial results by terminal ahead of the monthly executive results review. Provides insight into monthly themes, context, and current trends. Accumulates all slides for the executive review and facilitates the presentation.
  • Performs chartfield maintenance within PeopleSoft, including chart field additions and changes, combination edit rules, and tree maintenance. Serves as the principal reporting subject matter expert for the PeopleSoft nVision and query tools. Stays aware of changes in the business and adjusts/modifies report layouts as necessary to ensure continuity of report relevance for stakeholders.
  • Produces comparative financial statements and other financial information required to support the development of bond offering documents and official statements.
  • Partners with select divisions and departments as required to facilitate the resolution of accounting and reporting issues and enhance user understanding of their respective financial results.
  • Contributes to other projects and analysis as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's degree in related field required.

Licenses, Certifications, and Credentials

Valid driver’s license; Transportation Worker Identification Credential; CPA preferred (or currently pursuing)

Work Experience

Four years relevant experience required with public accounting experience preferred.
