Financial Operations Specialist – Part Time

Minneapolis, MN | 15–20 hours/week | $30–$35/hour

VANCCC is a nonprofit early childhood organization seeking a skilled financial professional to help strengthen our internal financial systems and provide clear, reliable reporting that supports wise decision-making by leadership and our Board of Directors.

This part-time role (15–20 hours per week) may be structured as either an employee or independent contractor position. Compensation is $30–$35 per hour, commensurate with experience.

The Role

The Financial Operations Specialist reports to the Executive Director and works closely with organizational leadership to maintain accurate accounting systems, ensure strong internal controls, and prepare financial reports that guide organizational planning and governance.

We are seeking a financial partner who brings both technical competence and professional judgment — someone who values clarity, accountability, and mission-driven work.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Systems & Accounting

• Maintain QuickBooks Online (or similar cloud-based software)
• Manage accounts payable and receivable
• Coordinate payroll entries and system integration
• Track restricted and unrestricted funds
• Maintain chart of accounts and accurate coding

Monthly Close & Reporting

• Perform monthly reconciliations
• Prepare budget-to-actual reports
• Generate financial summaries for leadership and Board review
• Support grant documentation
• Coordinate with external CPA

Controls & Planning Support

• Strengthen separation of duties
• Document financial procedures
• Assist with annual budget preparation
• Monitor staffing percentage of revenue and enrollment trends

Qualifications

• Nonprofit accounting experience preferred
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online or similar software
• Strong understanding of internal controls and financial best practices
• High attention to detail and reliability
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly and professionally

This role is central to maintaining financial clarity and supporting long-term sustainability in a mission-driven organization serving children and families.

Pay: $30.00 - $38.00 per hour
