What We’re Looking For
We are seeking an experienced Equipment Operator with strong finish-grade skills on a D6 Dozer to join our team in the Las Vegas area. This role is critical to delivering high-quality sitework and grading on commercial projects, and requires a professional who takes pride in precision, safety, and teamwork.
What You’ll Do
As an Equipment Operator, you will:
- Perform Finish Grading
- Cut grade to ± 0.05’ (half a tenth) consistently across pads, parking lots, roads, and other sitework.
- Use GPS, laser, or stakes to achieve tight tolerances and smooth, uniform surfaces.
- Make fine adjustments for drainage, slopes, and transitions to meet plan and spec requirements.
- Execute Work to Plan & Spec
- Review and interpret plans, stakes, blueprints, and grade sheets.
- Follow directions from the Foreman / Superintendent and clarify any discrepancies before proceeding.
- Coordinate with survey and layout crews to verify elevations and alignments.
- Anticipate upcoming work areas so machine time is used efficiently.
- Support Field Operations & the Crew
- Work closely with laborers, grade checkers, truck drivers, and other operators to keep production moving.
- Adjust your work style to different supervisors and personality types while staying professional and solution-focused.
- Assist with basic tasks on the ground when needed (checking grade, spotting trucks, setting simple stakes, etc.).
- Maintain a Safe, Clean Work Environment
- Operate equipment in accordance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific rules.
- Perform safe start-up, shut-down, and parking procedures every shift.
- Maintain a clean, organized machine and help keep the jobsite free of unnecessary hazards and debris.
- Immediately report any unsafe conditions, near-misses, or incidents to supervision.
- Equipment Care, Inspection & Maintenance
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections (fluids, tracks, undercarriage, lights, backup alarm, cutting edges, etc.).
- Complete inspection forms or digital checklists accurately and on time.
- Communicate any mechanical issues to the mechanic or supervisor before they become major problems.
- Assist with basic preventative maintenance such as greasing, minor adjustments, and keeping cabs and compartments clean.
What You Bring
- Experience
- Proven experience operating a D6 Dozer on commercial or civil projects (finish grading required).
- Experience working on pads, parking lots, roadways, utilities, or similar sitework.
- GPS or laser-controlled grading experience is a plus.
- Skills & Competencies
- Strong finish-grade ability and eye for detail: you can “see” the grade before it’s built.
- Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with a wide variety of personalities in the field.
- Solid understanding of basic construction math (elevations, slopes, cuts/fills).
- Ability to work independently but also function as part of a team focused on production and quality.
- Reliable, on-time, and willing to work overtime or Saturdays as the project demands.
- Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation to and from jobsites in the Las Vegas area.
- Ability to pass any required drug screening and meet company eligibility requirements.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Outdoor work in heat, cold, wind, dust, and noisy conditions
- Frequent climbing in and out of equipment, bending, twisting, and sitting for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- wear all required PPE (hard hat, safety vest, eye/ear protection, gloves, boots, etc. (Without being told to do so.)
