Fire Alarm Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing fire alarm systems to ensure safety and compliance with regulations. Here’s a clear breakdown of typical responsibilities:
Installation & Setup
- Install fire alarm systems, detectors, control panels, and wiring in residential, commercial, or industrial buildings
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams, and system specifications
- Ensure systems meet local safety codes and standards (e.g., civil defense requirements)
Maintenance & Inspection
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance
- Test system components (smoke detectors, heat detectors, alarms, control panels)
- Identify faults or malfunctions and fix them promptly
Troubleshooting & Repair
- Diagnose issues in fire alarm systems and related equipment
- Repair or replace defective components
- Ensure systems are fully operational after repairs
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all systems comply with safety regulations and standards
- Maintain service records, inspection reports, and maintenance logs
- Prepare reports for authorities or clients after inspections
Customer & Team Interaction
- Communicate with clients about system status and needed repairs
- Provide basic training to users on system operation
- Work with engineers, electricians, and safety officers
Technical Skills Required
- Knowledge of electrical systems and low-voltage wiring
- Familiarity with fire safety codes and standards
