Candidate process: After initial review, the highest qualifying applicants meeting

will be required to pass a practical physical skills test, medical examination,

The Position Of:

The City of Susanville offers an excellent benefits package which
includes but is not limited to professional and education incentives,
merit program, superior employee performance stipend, longevity
program, annual uniform allowance, annual physical fitness and
wellness program, and a 48/96 work schedule. This position is
eligible for overtime pay and out of area fire program opportunities.

The base annual salary for the Firefighter I is $49,342-$74,767

The base annual salary for the Firefighter I is $51,840-$78,552

The City provides the following benefits:

General hours accrual in first year

Sick hours per month with Sick Leave
conversion program to convert unused sick leave to vacation paid holidays per year

Medical, Dental, & Vision plan provided through
Anthem Blue Cross as well as Dental and Vision coverage. The
policy covers employee, spouses, and any eligible dependents, with
the current employee contribution of $30 per month.

Term Life with Health Coverage and $25,000
additional

Retirement: The City participates in the California Public
Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS). For legacy members, the
benefit level is 3% @50. For new members, the benefit level is 2.7%
@57.

Deferred Compensation: voluntary plans available

IRS Section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan available

The Susanville Fire Department is seeking qualified applicants

to fill the flexibly staffed Firefighter I/Firefighter II position

FIREFIGHTER I QUALIFICATIONS:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two (2) years of firefighting experience as a volunteer firefighter or one (1)

years of firefighting experience in a full-time department

ICS 100, 200

Hazmat FRO

NIMS 700

Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or ability to obtain within first

month of appointment

MINIMUM REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Equivalent to completion of California State Fire Marshall Firefighter I

certificate or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of appointment

Possession of California Class C driver’s license with Firefighter

Endorsement “F” or higher driver’s license class, or ability to obtain within

twelve (12) months of appointment.

Current California EMT-B or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of

appointment.

FIREFIGHTER II QUALIFICATIONS:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Four (4) years of firefighting experience as a volunteer firefighter or two (2)

years of firefighting experience in a full-time department

Hazmat FRO

NIMS 700

Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification

MINIMUM REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Satisfactory completion of California State Fire Marshall Firefighter I and

Firefighter II programs and possess the certificates

Possession of California Class C driver’s license with Firefighter

Endorsement “F” or higher driver’s license class, or ability to obtain within

twelve (12) months of appointment.

Current California EMT-B or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of

appointment.

Residency Policy: The Susanville Fire Department’s critical functions may require

employees to respond during emergencies or urgent situations within a reasonable time

and therefore its employees are subject to the city of Susanville residency policy. To
