EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Fire Driver's are assigned to an Engine, Truck, or a Quint company, and reports to the Station Captain. Essential functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: Safely and properly drives and operates their assigned apparatus.Conducts daily, periodic (anytime during the shift), and after use maintenance checks of assigned apparatus and equipment.Conducts maintenance and equipment checks anytime swapping onto an apparatus and/or beginning to drive the apparatus during the shift.Possesses an excellent knowledge of streets, block splits, major buildings, fixed fire protection systems, and the location and size of fire hydrants found throughout the city.Maintains a thorough knowledge of fire ground hydraulics.Communicates information to and from their relief person pertaining to the activities and happenings occurring during their tour of duty.Keeps supervisors advised of progress, problems, and happenings that might affect the image, efficiency, or morale of the Fire Department.Practices good business economics in the use of Fire Department personnel, utilities, equipment, and supplies.When required, assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Fire Captain.Acquires and maintains all fire and EMS certifications and licenses, or other credentials that are required by the Fire Chief.Drives and operates a designated piece of fire equipment. Connects to fire hydrant, operates pumps and valves on engine to regulate pressure, lays out other equipment and monitors radio.Assist firefighters and participates in firefighting, rescue and EMS emergency service delivery as instructed by an officer.Inventories equipment when reloading apparatus, swapping onto a new apparatus, or starting as a driver of the apparatus, and reports any missing or damaged equipment to the officer; performs daily inspection of apparatus, noting any shortages or malfunctions; performs daily fire station housekeeping functionsAttends daily in-service training and drills.Ensures their apparatus MDC is connected to the network and is operating correctly.Maintains a complete station uniform-cleaned and in good order; responsible for maintaining all assigned PPE.When assigned, acts as company officer, assuming all responsibilities and duties.Participates in assigned departmental programs; promptly receives visitors to the fire station.If available, answers stand-by or special call requests.Performs all other duties as may be assigned by their supervisor.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of modern fire and life safety, fire suppression and emergency medical service activities; ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and general public. Knowledge of the streets in Farmers Branch. Knowledge of the department's standard operating procedures, fixed fire protections systems and how to safely drive their assigned apparatus in an effective and efficient manner to the scene of an emergency.Special RequirementsThis position is subject to call back to duty.This position must be able to meet the Fire Department's Fit for Duty Standard, including the NFPA 1582 medical standard requirements.This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.Incumbents cannot be on a performance improvement plan (PIP) at the time of written exam.Licenses and CertificatesValid Texas Class "B" driver's license with good driving record and ability to maintain while employed, required.Must possess the following certifications: TCFP FirefighterTCFP Driver/OperatorTCFP Fire Officer IDSHS ParamedicWork EnvironmentExposure to dust, flames and smoke in the suppression of fires; physical demands require considerable physical effort with heavy lifting (over 100 lbs.)carrying, pushing, reaching crawling. Requires heavy muscular effort with resulting fatigue of arms, legs, back or sensory facilities.
