FIRE EMT/AEMT/PARAMEDIC

Job Summary
Definition: The purpose of this position is to provide emergency medical care, save lives, and protect property. This is accomplished by responding to emergency medical and fire calls for service. Other responsibilities include providing public relations and education; inspecting and cleaning emergency equipment; maintaining operations base unit; and performing other duties as assigned. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. Consistently applies the County’s Core Values in support of Workforce Excellence.

Work Environment
The majority of the work involves driving and conducting activities in open areas, in vehicles or in buildings under a wide variety of circumstances. Outdoor work and driving are performed in all degrees of weather conditions. The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma, GED or equivalent
Must possess current NM EMT Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic License
Must possess a Valid CPR certification (AHA or ASHI)

Preferred Certificates and Licenses
IFSAC Hazmat Awareness & Operations Certification, or equivalent
IFSAC Firefighter I Certification, or equivalent
IFSAC Firefighter II Certification, or equivalent
New Mexico Class E Driver’s License

Other Requirements
The applicant of this position must comply with established safety guidelines of the County.

Conditions of Employment: (Final offer of employment is contingent upon the outcome of)
Applicant must complete and pass a pre-employment background investigation and may be required to pass a drug analysis test.
Applicant cannot have any felony convictions at any time.
Applicant cannot have any misdemeanor convictions within the preceding five (5) years.
Applicant cannot have any convictions of a crime of moral turpitude.

Certificates and Licenses
Must possess a valid Driver’s License at time of employment and be insurable for liability purposes; and the ability to possess a New Mexico Driver’s License within six (6) months of hire date.

Supervisory Controls
Duties are performed under the general supervision of the County Fire Marshal and/or his designee who assigns work. However, the applicant works with a high degree of independence and is required to make rapid decisions in emergency situations to protect lives and property. Activities are reviewed for appropriateness, soundness and conformance to laws, regulations, and accepted work practices. Investigative and incident reports are reviewed for completeness, technical accuracy, and compliance with established procedures.
