Fire Inspector (Fire Certified)

About The Position

Serves as chief inspector for major projects; directs and reviews the work of a small group of inspectors; inspects developer-built projects, for conformance with Department of Aviation, County, state and industry plans, specifications, codes and contract provisions; ensures that required modifications are accomplished. This recruitment is limited to current permanent Department of Aviation employees and will establish a Departmental Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies which may occur within the next three months.

Interview Subject Area Statement: The subject areas that will be assessed in the interview phase of this recruitment include Experience working with outside entities (contractors, inpectors, other agencies, ect), Knowledge of drawings, forms and other documents, and the ability to access performance based on contract requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Two years of college level course work in pre-engineering, construction technology or a related field and four years of full-time construction inspection experience. Experience in a field related to the work may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Applicants not meeting these requirements will not be considered for employment.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician, if applicable.

Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver’s License at time of hire. Certain positions in certain departments may require possession of a valid ICC or other nationally recognized inspection certificate as a combination inspector and possession of one specialty certificate.

Customs and Border Protection Security Seal Program: Employment with the Department of Aviation in this job title is contingent upon a five year employment and residency history record check and the ability to present original identity based documentation in order to meet the requirements for a Security Seal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment and to drive a motor vehicle in order to travel to and from work sites; strength and stamina to inspect various public work projects; vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, over the telephone or by radio. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs on-site inspections of streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, catch basins, storm and sanitary sewers, traffic signals and controls, rough and fine grading and related public works projects. Inspects safety aspects of jobs in progress; ensures proper traffic control and barricading; encourages contractors to observe applicable safety rules and regulations. Uses a variety of engineering and survey tools and equipment; operates a County vehicle to travel to and from job sites. Interprets, explains and enforces regulations, ordinances and policies to developers, contractors, representatives of other agencies and the public; Provides coordination between contractor, Airport and Airport tenants, Confers with Department of Aviaiton, County engineering and inspection staff regarding possible changes to plans and problem resolution. Retains plans and specifications until project completion; checks "as-built" plans for completeness and accuracy. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Serves as chief inspector on particularly large or complex projects. Checks plans, pay requests and construction documents for mathematical accuracy. Maintains logs of inspection performed; prepares periodic and special reports as required; estimates progress payments due on contracts for public works projects. Provides lead direction, training and work review to a group of inspectors; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work. Reviews plans, maps, specifications, soils reports, contracts and other documents to ensure conformance with federal, state, County and industry codes and regulations; notes changes required and follows up as necessary. Depending upon assignment, may provide input into selection, evaluation, disciplinary and other personnel matters; may sign evaluation forms and counsel employees as required. May perform routine field testing of construction materials.

Group Insurance: Health and dental insurance is available at a minimal expense to eligible employees, spouses and dependents. The County pays the monthly life insurance premium for eligible employees.

Service Connected Disability Insurance: Eligible employees are covered by a Workman's Compensation Program in accordance with the provisions of the Nevada Industrial Insurance Act (NRS Chapter 616) and the Nevada Occupational Diseases Act (NRS 617).

Long-Term Disability Insurance: The County pays a monthly premium toward a long-term disability plan for eligible employees.

Vacation: Vacation leave accrual is based on length of County employment. Initial accrual is at the rate of 3.08 vacation hours for each biweekly pay period.

Sick Leave: Eligible employees accrue 3.7 hours of sick leave for each biweekly pay period. Employees completing 10 years of service accrue an additional .92 hours of sick leave per biweekly pay period.

Miscellaneous Leaves: Court leave, military leave, parental leave, leave without pay, blood donor leave, education leave, and County promotional/transfer application examination leave are available (upon approval) for eligible permanent employees.

Retirement: Full-time employees become a member of the Nevada State Public Employees Retirement System.

Credit Union: Clark County employees and their families are eligible to join the Clark County Credit Union.

Tuition Reimbursement: Subject to availability of funds, eligible employees may be awarded tuition reimbursement upon successful completion of pre-approved, job related courses.
