The Role
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: • Reports through the chain of command to the Supervisor. • Responds swiftly and safely to all emergency calls and requests for assistance and will deal with emergencies as directed whilst working safely and efficiently as a member of a disciplined team. • Maintain all emergency equipment in a state of operational readiness, including cleanliness, testing and repairing as required to approved standards and procedures and to undertake checks on emergency resources provided for ERT use, including fire hydrants and other fixed fire detection and suppression installations. • Take part in a continuous training and developmental learning program by attending lectures, exercises, simulated incidents, practice drill sessions, courses and other forms of training designed to achieve and maintain competence levels. • Maintain a satisfactory level of personal fitness, hygiene, appearance and cleanliness of uniform commensurate with all the duties of a Fire Marshal. • Participate in training courses for EGA employees, i.e. Fire Warden, Fire Induction, etc. • Performs salvage operations such as protection of affected plant and equipment following an incident and removing water and debris. § Cleans and inspects equipment and apparatus after returning from an incident. § Inspects equipment and apparatus and notifies ERT Management of any defects or deficiencies. § Makes minor repairs to equipment and apparatus, performs routine preventative maintenance tasks and maintains records of such actions. § Keeps fire station, equipment and grounds in a clean and orderly condition. § Acquires and retains a thorough knowledge of the plant, including topography, building and plant risks, firefighting water supplies, unusual hazards and related items. § Enters inspection, training and fire and emergency calls into the relevant log books. § Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with EGA policies and procedures. § Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions. Follows EGA Safety policy and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning accident prevention, reporting and monitoring as per EGA Safety standards. § Establish and maintain a comprehensive understanding into the activities in all areas of the plant. § Carry out fire inspections and audits, fire risk assessment and pre-incident planning. § Carry out testing, inspection and maintenance of fire protection and detection systems and equipment in accordance with department procedures, ensuring all relevant details are recorded. § Assist medical staff in casualty handling as appropriate.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: Minimum Qualifications: • NFPA Firefighter 1 and 2 (1001) or equivalent (JOIFF/IFE Grad certificate) • HAZMAT Awareness 472 • HAZMAT Operations 472 • First Aid – Highfield level 3 Minimum Experience: • At least 2 years’ experience in a Government or Industrial Fire Department or, • At least 2 years’ experience in a Fire Safety/Engineering role or, • A combination of the above experience. Skills: • Reasonable fluency in written and spoken English.
