Fire Truck Parts Buyer

Sutphen is seeking a buyer to join our growing team in Urbana, Ohio.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced buyer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and negotiating materials to meet Sutphen's operational requirements. Your primary goal will be to ensure the timely delivery of quality products at the best possible cost.

Essential Functions


  • Coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing, planning & engineering departments to acquire inventory in a cost effective & timely manner.
  • Contacts vendors regarding open purchase orders, receiving estimated shipping date &/or arrival date, along with contacting internal personnel regarding results.
  • Maintain & manage purchase orders from placement to reconciliation.
  • Take action upon receipt of daily exceptions/material alerts in order to sustain required material service levels. Run open order report holding suppliers accountable to confirmed dock dates, working to obtain recovery dates to be entered into system.
  • Identify & resolve supply chain related problems in day-to-day activities in an effort to increase overall efficiency & productivity. Coordinates return of rejected or unsuitable orders.
  • Recommends cost saving proposals including make-versus-buy analysis or alternative sourcing.
  • Works with management to address all aspects of commodity management, including procurement support, commodity business plans, market trends assessment, pricing & product availability.
  • Develop & strengthen relationships with suppliers.
  • Assists in physical inventories as assigned.
  • Maintain a neat, organized & professional work environment.
  • Operate & conduct business activities with safety first.
  • Accountable to deadlines.
