Under close supervision, performs specialized firefighting work in fire suppression, administer emergency medical care, provide fire prevention and basic medical care education, and operate fire rescue apparatus. Employee will participate in firefighting and medical training and other training as needed. Employees may be assigned to operate equipment to alarms, utilize special skills acquired on the job, or assist with fire inspections. Employee is responsible for inspection, cleaning and maintenance of equipment and quarters as well as others tasks as necessary. Reports to a Fire Lieutenant or Fire Captain.
Minimum Requirements (Must meet by the closing date of the posting unless otherwise stated)
Education

Graduation from High School or equivalent.

An AS or AA Degree in a related field is preferred.
Additional Requirements, All Applicants Must

Be at least 18 years old;
-
Possess a valid Class "E" Florida Drivers' License.

Not have a suspended drivers' license within five (5) years of the date of this application (not insurance related).

Not have a DUI arrest and/or conviction in the last five (5) years.

Either currently possess a Paramedic Certification, OR possess an EMT Certification and are currently enrolled in Paramedic School.

EMT Certification (State of Florida Certified or National Register).
-
Must obtain Paramedic Certification within 2 ½ years of the date of hire and subsequently cleared by our Medical Director within six (6) months of obtaining said Certification.

Possess a current Firefighter Certificate of Compliance Certification issued by the Division of State Fire Marshal for the State of Florida.

Possess a current Basic Life Support CPR Card (Issued by the American Heart Association or an equivalent agency).
-
Possess an EVOC Certification pursuant to FL Statute 401.281(1) (e).
-
Not have failed the Town of Davie Background Investigation, Oral Board Interview, Polygraph or Psychological Exam within the past year.
-
Not have employment history that includes poor performance (to include evaluation information, disciplines, suspension and/or terminations) and/or inability to maintain steady employment.

Not have any body art, brands, tattoos on the head, neck, or face. The neck will be defined as any marking that protrudes past the threshold of any dress uniform. A single ring tattoo is the only body art permitted on the hand.

Not have steroid usage within three (3) years of the date of this application.

Not have used any illegal drugs to include heroin, cocaine hallucinogenic substances and/or other illegal substances with the exception of marijuana as outlined below.

Not have used marijuana or cannabis in any form within one (1) year of the date of this application.

Not have used any tobacco products within one (1) year of the date of this application to include nicotine and E-cigarettes. Candidates must commit to non-usage during employment as well.

Not have been dishonorably discharged from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.

Not have made a false statement of any material fact or practiced deception in his/her application.

Not have any convictions of a felony or crime involving moral turpitude. As used herein, the term "convicted" means a plea of guilty, a plea of nolo contendere, or a finding of guilty (regardless of whether adjudication is withheld) by any judicial body charged with the responsibility to determine violations of federal, Florida or any other state statute or law. Of course the Town of Davie will evaluate the nature or gravity of the offense; the time elapsed since the conviction and/or completion of the sentence; the nature of the job sought or held and other relative factors.
Information Regarding The Physical Agility Test
Qualified applicants will be scheduled by the Davie Fire Rescue Department to complete a physical agility test prior to a conditional offer of employment being extended. No other physical agility test will be accepted.

Paramedic Certification

Candidates must either be a certified Paramedic OR a certified EMT and currently enrolled in Paramedic school.

If you already finished paramedic school and are waiting to take the exam or receive the results, you are eligible to apply and would be required to submit the transcripts for paramedic school and passing results for the certification once received.
