The City of North Platte is seeking dedicated and highly motivated Firefighter/Paramedics to join our department. In this role, you will respond to fire, rescue, and medical emergencies both within the City and at the airport, providing critical, life‑saving services. You’ll operate advanced firefighting and emergency medical equipment, support fire prevention efforts, and participate in ongoing training to enhance your skills.

What You’ll Do
In this dynamic, high‑impact role, you will:
Fire & Rescue Response
- Respond to fire alarms, rescue calls, and emergency incidents
- Perform fire suppression activities including rescue, entry, ventilation, and salvage
- Operate pumping engines, aerial ladder trucks, and other emergency vehicles
- Assist with training EMTs and EMT‑Intermediates in patient care
- Conduct overhaul operations after a fire and prepare for future calls
Emergency Medical Services
- Drive and operate ambulances and emergency medical units
- Provide advanced life support including CPR, first aid, airway management, IV therapy, and medication administration
- Recognize and treat cardiac dysrhythmias
- Use resuscitation, defibrillation, stabilization, and life support equipment
Station, Equipment & Community Support
- Maintain ambulances, fire apparatus, equipment, and station grounds
- Participate in continuous training on firefighting, EMS, hazardous materials, rescue techniques, and more
- Respond to major alarms, disasters, manpower shortages, and off‑duty emergencies
- Conduct fire inspections and assist in prevention activities
- Serve as lead worker when assigned
What You Bring
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of elementary physics, chemistry, and mechanics
- Knowledge of paramedic protocols and firefighting principles
- Familiarity with NIMS (ICS) 100, 200, and 700
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions
- Strong record‑keeping and report‑writing skills
- Mechanical aptitude, physical endurance, and agility
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
Technical Competencies
Ability to develop, perform, and maintain skills in:
- Firefighter I & II (NFPA 1001)
- Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator (NFPA 1002)
- Technical Rescuer (NFPA 1006)
- Wildland Firefighter (NFPA 1051)
- Hazardous Materials Technician (NFPA 472)
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered
Special Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Must meet department standards for age, height, weight, and physical condition
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of firefighting and EMS duties
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.97 - $29.71 per hour
