Firefighter Eligibility List Announcement

Testing Day: March 23, 2026 (Written & Physical Assessment)
The City of Norfolk is now accepting applications to establish an Eligibility List for the
position of Firefighter. Candidates who successfully complete the testing process will be placed
on an eligibility list for future vacancies.
Under the direction of the Shift Captain, Firefighters respond to fire alarms and emergency calls
to protect life and property.
Essential Job Functions
- Respond to rescue operations including patient care and transport, medical calls, motor
vehicle accidents, trauma calls, and family crisis situations
- Operate rescue equipment including the Jaws of Life and related tools
- Respond to fire alarms and perform fire suppression activities
- Complete incident reports, hospital documentation, and computer data entry
- Participate in fire, rescue, medical, and physical fitness training programs
- Perform daily maintenance checks of equipment, apparatus, buildings, and grounds
- Provide public education on CPR, first aid, fire extinguishers, and fire safety
- Assist in fire investigations
- Conduct fire safety inspections of businesses and multi-family dwellings
- Serve as a team member on the Hazardous Materials Response Team
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $4,424.00 - $6,067.00 per month
