The City of Bellbrook is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Full Time Firefighter-Paramedic. The position performs administrative and functional duties related to firefighting and emergency medical service. Candidates should have knowledge of local government, the principles and practices of modern fire combat, suppression and extinguishing, emergency medical service practices, and the ability to interpret and administer regulations, policies and procedures.
Possession of an Ohio Firefighter Level II and Paramedic Certification at time of appointment is required. Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in Fire Service Administration or related field, or any combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions and responsibilities of the position. Salary range $53352 to $73008.00 with a generous benefits (130 Holiday hours, 24 hours of PTO, vacation based off years of service, lateral sick time transfer up to 520 hours) and retirement package. JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Firefighter II/Paramedic (Full-time)
Department: Fire
Status: Non-Exempt
Major Duties
- Acts as the shift supervisor and assumes command of emergency incident scenes in the absence of a higher-ranking officer.
-Performs firefighting activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps, and related equipment, laying hose, and performing fire combat, containment, and extinguishment tasks.
-Performs emergency medical service activities including administering basic life support, advanced life support and providing other assistance as required.
- Performs salvage operations such as throwing salvage covers, sweeping water, and removing debris.
-Equipment operated: emergency medical ambulance, fire apparatus, fire pumps, hoses, and other standard firefighting equipment, ladders, first aid, basic and advanced life support equipment, radio, MDT, pager, personal computer, and phones.
- Participates in fire drills, attends classes in firefighting, emergency medical, hazardous materials, and related subjects.
-Forces entry of premises for firefighting, rescue, and salvage operations. Removes persons from dangerous situations.
-Uses self-contained breathing apparatus, operates medical cots, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment.
-Participates in training including: firefighting, emergency care, specialized skills, public education, and other fire service related subjects.
- Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment: cleans and washes walls and floors, cares for grounds around station, makes minor repairs, washes, hangs and dries hose, and other equipment and facilities related task
-Assists in the coordination of safety educational programs for the Fire Department and general public.
-Inspects public places and businesses for existing and potential fire hazards. Works with fire inspectors and building inspectors for the correction or removal of hazards.
- Assists in training new employees as assigned.
- Assists in department supervisory and administrative activities as assigned.
-Responds to off-duty emergency calls as needed.
- Other duties as determined appropriate by the Fire Chief.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
-Considerable knowledge of modern fire suppression and prevention as well as emergency medical service principles, procedures, techniques, tactics, and equipment.
-Working knowledge of first aid and resuscitation techniques and their application as demonstrated through State Paramedic Certification.
- Knowledge of the location of city streets, fire hydrants, and target life hazards.
- Ability to supervise and lead the assigned shift employees under both routine and emergency situations in the absence of a higher-ranking officer.
-Ability to apply training and knowledge of firefighting and emergency medical service in emergency situations.
-Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, departmental standard operating procedures, and regulations.
-Skill in the operation of required tools and equipment
-Ability to perform a variety of strenuous work activities requiring good physical condition.
-Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
-Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
-Ability to effectively give and receive verbal and written instructions.
-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public.
-Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time.
-Excellent customer service and organizational skills.

-The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
-Work is performed primarily in office, vehicles, and outdoor settings, in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes, during day and night shifts. Work is often performed in emergency and stressful situations. Individual is exposed to hearing alarms and hazards associated with fighting fires and rendering emergency medical assistance, including smoke, noxious odors, fumes, chemicals, liquid chemicals, solvents, and oils.
-The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
-The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings, and loud at an emergency scene.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma /GED or equivalent.
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License.
- Firefighter/EMT: valid State of Ohio Emergency Medical Technician Certification.
-Firefighter/Paramedic: valid State of Ohio State of Ohio Paramedic Certification.
- Valid State of Ohio Firefighter Level 1 Certification.
-Valid State of Ohio Firefighter Level II Certificate.
-Valid Basic Life Support Certification.
-Valid Advance Life Support Certification.
- NIMS certifications: 100, 700. 200, 800.
