Firefighter/AEMT Recruit

Job Overview
Serves as a member of the Thomas County Emergency Services Department. This is a full-time position that enables candidates with no current training the opportunity to work while being certified and educated as a Fire Fighter 1 and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. Upon completion, this position will require activities that are associated with fire prevention, fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials, and emergency medical operations with patient care. Applications will be submitted to the County Commissioners office from May 1, 2025, through June 13, 2025. Recruits selected will begin employment on August 12, 2025.

Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to emergency calls for fires, medical emergencies, and other incidents.
• Perform firefighting duties including extinguishing fires using hoses, water supplies, and other firefighting equipment.
• Conduct search and rescue operations to locate and assist individuals trapped in hazardous situations.
• Administer first aid and basic life support to injured individuals until further medical assistance arrives.
• Maintain firefighting equipment and vehicles to ensure they are in optimal working condition.
• Participate in training exercises to improve firefighting techniques and emergency response skills.
• Conduct fire safety inspections of buildings and provide recommendations for fire prevention measures.
• Educate the public on fire safety practices through community outreach programs.
