FIREFIGHTER/NREMT (FULL-TIME)

Job Overview
Join our dedicated emergency response team as a full-time Firefighter/NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians). The City of York is accepting applications for a full-time Firefighter/NREMT. This position performs fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, and related duties in support of the York Fire Department’s mission. Work involves physically demanding tasks performed in hazardous conditions and under extreme stress.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license
  • Have a high school diploma (or equivalent)
  • Minimum IFSAC Firefighter-II certification
  • NREMT certification (Preferred)
  • Successfully pass a NFPA 1582 physical and fitness test
  • Be able to perform heavy physical labor under adverse and demanding conditions
  • Be able to work and live with peers while assigned to a 24/48-hour shift schedule
  • Demonstrate significant eye/hand/foot coordination
  • Have the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Fire suppression, overhaul, search and rescue, EMS response, extrication, and haz-mat operations
  • Operating fire apparatus, motor vehicles, firefighting equipment, hand tools, and power tools used during emergency responses
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and moving equipment and objects required for emergency operations
  • Performing effectively in uncomfortable physical conditions and under extreme stress where speed, sustained attention, and sound judgment are critical
  • Following and remaining knowledgeable of departmental Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) & Best Practices.
  • Demonstrating discretion, flexibility, and professionalism in daily operations
  • Participating in required training to maintain proficiency and learn new techniques
  • Attending meetings and internal training exercises as assigned
  • Maintaining the fire station, apparatus, and all equipment in a clean and operational condition

Pay: $39,091.97 - $42,000.00 per year
