Job Summary
Under the direction of the supervising officer, is responsible for protecting life, property and the environment from fire, proving rescue and emergency medical services, containing and controlling accidental or illegal release of hazardous materials, performing fire code compliance inspections and delivery of community fire education programs, operating and performing general maintenance on fire department vehicles/equipment, and cleaning/maintaining fire department facilities. Performs a variety of miscellaneous functions as may be required in the day-to-day operations of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to emergency calls for fire and medical assistance.
  • Perform advanced life support procedures, including administering medications and monitoring vital signs.
  • Conduct fire suppression activities, including extinguishing fires, rescuing individuals, and protecting property.
  • Provide first aid and basic life support to patients in various emergency situations.
  • Maintain equipment and vehicles in good working order, ensuring readiness for emergency response.
  • Participate in training exercises and drills to enhance firefighting and medical skills.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately and maintain records as required by protocols.
  • Collaborate with other emergency services personnel during incidents to ensure efficient operations.

Education

  • Possession of a High School diploma or the equivalent. Licensed by the State Of Michigan as a Paramedic. Certified by the State Of Michigan, as a Firefighter I & II, and State Of Michigan certification at the Hazardous Materials Operations Level.

Qualifications

  • Paramedic experience is preferred; certification as a Paramedic is required.
  • FFI/FFII & Hazmat Ops experience is preferred; FFI/FFII & Hazmat Ops Certificate is required.
  • Possession of a Valid State of Michigan Driver's license is required
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification required
  • Strong understanding of vital signs assessment and patient monitoring techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.

Probationary Period - 12 Months

Hours to be worked - 24 Hour Shifts
