Firefighter/Paramedic

Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Firefighter/Paramedic to join our team. Fire/Medical cross trained staff. 6 personnel per shift out of one staffed station. 48/96 shift rotation. Approximately 2,200 calls per year.

Pay/Benefits:

Duties & Responsibilities

Emergency Medical Services

• Respond to medical emergencies and provide patient assessment, treatment, stabilization, and transport in accordance with paramedic scope of practice, department protocols, and medical direction.
• Accurately complete patient care reports and associated documentation in a timely manner.
• Operate safely and effectively during high-acuity and multi-patient incidents.

Fire Suppression and Fireground Operations

• Respond to structure fires, wildland fires, vehicle fires, and other fire-related emergencies.
• Perform fire attack, search and rescue, ventilation, overhaul, salvage, exposure protection, and fire containment operations.
• Deploy, operate, and maintain firefighting equipment including hoses, pumps, ladders, nozzles, forcible entry tools, thermal imaging cameras, and SCBA equipment.
• Participate in fire prevention activities, inspections, pre-planning, and public education programs.
• Maintain proficiency in fireground tactics, incident command principles, and firefighter safety procedures.

Apparatus and Equipment Operation

• Safely operate fire apparatus, ambulances, utility vehicles, boats, trailers, pumps, generators, and associated emergency response equipment when authorized.
• Conduct routine inspections, testing, cleaning, fueling, and maintenance of vehicles and equipment to ensure operational readiness.
• Identify mechanical deficiencies and report maintenance concerns promptly.

Rescue Operations

• Participate in vehicle extrication and stabilization operations using hydraulic, pneumatic, and hand-powered rescue tools.
• High-angle and low-angle rope rescue
• Swiftwater and flood rescue
• Confined space rescue
• Ice rescue
• Perform victim packaging, patient movement, rigging systems, and scene stabilization during rescue incidents.

Hazardous Materials Response

• Respond to hazardous materials incidents in accordance with department training and assigned certification level.
• Assist with scene isolation, hazard identification, decontamination, defensive mitigation, and incident support functions.
• Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment and follow department safety procedures during hazardous environments.

Training and Professional Development

• Participate in department drills, continuing education, certifications, and physical fitness activities.
• Maintain competency in firefighting, EMS, rescue, and specialized operational disciplines.
• Demonstrate initiative in skill development and operational readiness.

Station and Administrative Duties

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of fire stations, apparatus bays, living quarters, and department facilities.
• Perform equipment inventories, testing, and routine station maintenance tasks.
• Complete incident reports, training records, inspections, and other required documentation accurately and promptly.
• Represent the department professionally during interactions with the public and partner agencies.

Teamwork and Conduct

• Function effectively within a team environment while maintaining professionalism, accountability, and communication.
• Follow department policies, chain of command, and safety procedures.
• Demonstrate the ability to remain calm and effective in stressful and rapidly evolving situations.
• Support crew cohesion, shared workload responsibilities, and operational efficiency.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, dragging, climbing, crawling, carrying equipment, operating tools, and working in extreme environmental conditions.
• Work in hazardous environments involving heat, smoke, fire, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous materials, confined spaces, moving traffic, and adverse weather.
• Ability to wear and operate in structural firefighting PPE and SCBA for extended periods.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current Paramedic license
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to obtain and maintain department-required certifications
• Successful completion of department hiring standards, background investigation, and physical requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Firefighter I and II certifications
• EVOC or emergency vehicle operations training
• Technical rescue certifications
• Swiftwater rescue certification
• Hazardous materials operations certification
• Wildland firefighting certifications

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $73,000.00 - $77,000.00 per year
