Company Description

The Fort Mill Fire Department, established in 1915 following a major downtown fire, has a rich history of service to the community. Originally a volunteer-based department, it transitioned to include its first paid firefighters in 1994. Today, the department has grown alongside the town and now serves the community with a professional team of 64 full-time and 4 part-time personnel.


Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Firefighter role based in Fort Mill, SC. As a Firefighter, you will respond to emergency calls, including fire suppression, rescue operations, and first response medical assistance. Responsibilities also include inspecting and maintaining equipment, participating in regular training, promoting community fire safety, and adhering to standard operating procedures. This role requires commitment to teamwork, physical endurance, and adherence to procedures while ensuring public safety.


Salary

  • Firefighter $56,531
  • Firefighter with NREMT $59,358
  • Firefighter Relief Driver $62,326 (after 6-month probation and relief driver status obtained)

Qualifications

  • Fire suppression and rescue operation skills, alongside the ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm and efficient manner
  • Mechanical aptitude for inspecting and maintaining firefighting equipment and vehicles
  • Strong physical fitness and stamina required to perform physically demanding tasks
  • Excellent communication skills for clear coordination during emergencies and public education efforts
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in high-pressure situations
  • Basic first aid and emergency medical response training
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Relevant certifications such as Firefighter I/II and NREMT are preferred (NREMT will be required within 2 years of employment. Training provided by the department)
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to maintain department certifications
  • Willingness to work 24-hour shifts, 10 days a month
