Firmware Engineer (Contract)
Please note that this is a contract role providing services to Microsoft through external staffing partners of Allegis Global Solutions. If you are selected for this role, you will be employed by AGS and will not be an employee of Microsoft.
Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate embedded firmware engineer to join a dynamic and innovative accessories development team that is expanding into new product families and fundamental technologies. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the firmware development of cutting-edge consumer electronic devices, working alongside talented engineers across multiple disciplines. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in embedded firmware development, a strong foundation in computer science, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including operating system engineers, electrical designers, and design validation and test teams. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on emerging products from the ground up, participating in all phases of hardware product development and driving the success of innovative technologies.
Job Responsibilities:
Participate in all phases of hardware product development including designing and implementing firmware code, creating prototypes and proofs of concept, writing test code and support scripts
Contribute to the design and implementation of various firmware components and tools, including device drivers, peripheral drivers, communication interfaces, input and sensor data processing, power management state machines, and programming scripts
Perform code reviews to ensure quality and consistency across the codebase
Integrate code drops from third-party suppliers
Troubleshoot complex scenarios spanning across multiple systems
Requirements:
8 to 10 years of relevant experience in embedded firmware engineering required
Demonstrated experience supporting consumer electronic devices in a firmware engineering capacity
Proven experience integrating third-party code and working within multi-team development environments
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field required
Proficiency in C and/or C++ with a minimum of 8 years of experience
Minimum of 8 years of embedded firmware development experience
Minimum of 8 years of embedded driver development experience
Experience writing and debugging embedded firmware
Familiarity with embedded RTOS or FreeRTOS design and debugging
Strong foundation in computer science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design
Experience with consumer electronic software design and development
Ability to perform in-depth troubleshooting and unit testing
Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines
Additional Details:
Location: Redmond, WA (Onsite)
Duration: 6 months
Pay Range*: $70 - $79.50 per hour
Weekly Schedule: 40 hours
Job Status: Non-Exempt
