Kindred Scholars Academy has served homeschool and traditional education families for more than 10 years through engaging academic and enrichment programs. We are excited to be launching a new in-person first grade program and are seeking an enthusiastic educator who enjoys creating meaningful learning experiences for young children.

Position Overview

We are looking for a warm, organized, and dependable teacher to lead a small first grade class in a hands-on learning environment. Lessons will integrate literacy, math, science, social studies, art, games, and enrichment activities through engaging themes that help bring learning to life.

This is an excellent opportunity for an educator who enjoys small-group instruction, building relationships with families, and having a voice in a growing program.

Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging first grade lessons in a small-group setting
  • Foster a positive, welcoming classroom environment
  • Support learners academically, socially, and emotionally
  • Communicate professionally with families and program leadership
  • Prepare materials and activities for class sessions
  • Arrive prior to class for setup and organization of the learning space
  • Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment

Qualifications Required

  • Teaching certification
  • Experience teaching children ages 5–7
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Reliable, professional, and self-motivated
  • Willingness to work as an independent contractor (1099)
  • Ability to travel to Holbrook, NY
  • Ability to arrive prior to class for setup and preparation

Preferred

  • Degree in Education or a related field
  • Experience in homeschool, private school, microschool, enrichment, or alternative education settings
  • Homeschool experience (as an educator or parent) is a plus
  • Experience working with diverse learning needs

Our Teaching Philosophy

We are not looking for a teacher who simply works through worksheets or follows a script.

We are looking for an educator who can bring these themes to life through stories, discussion, experiments, games, movement, art, literature, projects, and meaningful learning experiences.

While academic skills remain important, our goal is to create a classroom where children are excited to learn, ask questions, make connections, and actively participate in the learning process.

The ideal educator will enjoy blending creativity with academics and helping learners see how different subjects connect to the world around them.

Hiring Process
