Position Summary
This entry level role involves data and order entry, Adobe Software, critical organizational and filing skills, proof-reading PDF and various composite ready to print files, plate bending, machine maintenance, preparing and optimizing artwork for high-quality print production, ensuring accurate collection and relevant hard-copy proofs and printing plates. You should be somewhat computer savvy with knowledge of text and image manipulations, maybe knowledge of Adobe, Word, Excel, or FileMaker. You will learn on the job about lithographic offset and digital production, FileMaker, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Word and Excel.
Key Responsibilities and Concepts to Learn:
- Proof-read artwork for various price, weight, UPC and code cross-check before plating
- Check and flag files for technical accuracy, spelling, price, weight, UPC, and various marks (fonts, dielines, image resolution, spot colors, registration marks, etc.).
- Collaborate closely with prepress and press operators and production staff to maintain color consistency and resolve prepress issues efficiently, supply G7 Proofs for all jobs, set press room up for success
- Develop and maintain an understanding of paper substrates, adhesives, coatings, and packet sealing techniques to ensure print feasibility and meet customer demands
- Prepare and organize proofs and plates and special instructions for each job for the press room
- Organize and prepare and run file through digital press
- Clear and detailed Order Entry (FileMaker) as per CP Scheduling and CP manufacturing, communicate special Instructions on a per job basis with respect to Press, Converting and Shipping.
Typical Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in data-entry, proofreading, and an ability to learn the concepts of computer to plate and digital printing
- Learn RIP and Trap software (Harlequin), color management
- ·Excellent attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
- ·Strong communication and teamwork skills with clients and within the CP environment, a clear understanding that it is better to ask than assume
- ·Overtime or weekend work may be required during peak production periods
- ·Must be able to read, write legibly and execute basic addition, subtraction and division
Preferred Skills:
- Experience is proofing and/or proofreading digital files as compared to printed lists, a superior attention to detail
- A knowledge of and use of various mathematical (calculators) and measurement tools
- A willingness to learn our processes of plating, printing, die-cutting, and converting
- A willingness to troubleshoot machine variances
- An inherent ability to work well with others
- Must understand CP ‘How not to Screw-Up’ books, and CP Safety Manual and LOTO and Inch-Safe and all the CP Manuals
