Sunway Charters | Fleet & Maintenance | Full-time | Reports to Chief Transportation Officer
You are the backbone of the shop. Every bus that rolls out clean and on time starts with you - your crew, your parts, your process. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows diesel inside and out and takes pride in running a tight operation. You will be in the shop leading by example, making real-time decisions that keep our fleet moving and our customers on schedule.
- Daily shop leadership - Run the floor, assist mechanics directly, and build out each day's work assignment sheet so nothing slips through the cracks.
- DVIR and scheduling oversight - Review prior-day driver inspection reports every morning and check Coach Manager scheduling for the next seven days to stay ahead of service demands.
- Preventive maintenance - Monitor VMS for upcoming PMs and ensure scheduled work orders are closed out on time, every time.
- Work order management - Open, track, and close both scheduled and unscheduled work orders; confirm all parts are applied before close-out.
- Parts and procurement - Look up and order all parts from vendors, manage the parts room, and monitor fluid inventory (fuel, oil, antifreeze) to keep reorder levels tight.
- Vendor coordination - Manage outside repair relationships and serve as the point of contact for all third-party vendors.
- Fuel accountability - Input prior-day fuel data and verify tank readings daily.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in medium/heavy fleet mechanic repair - diesel and gasoline systems both.
- Strong skills in diagnostics, electrical systems, air brake systems, and HVAC/AC. These are not nice-to-haves.
- ASE Master Truck Technician certification preferred. EPA 608/609 certification is a plus.
- Valid North Carolina driver's license with a clean driving record. Must have or be willing to obtain a Class B CDL.
- Must own your tools. You know your way around them - bring them.
- Sound judgment and confident decision-making under pressure. The shop moves fast; you set the pace.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- DOT pre-employment physical
- Drug screen
- Background check
- Must be able to climb, balance, reach, push, pull, grip, bend, squat, crouch, kneel, stoop, crawl, stand, sit, and walk as required to carry out job duties.
