Fleet Maintenance Technician

Fleet Maintenance Technician with Growth Opportunity to Fleet Maintenance Lead – Certifications Not Required

Companion Transport – Oregon Coast & Valley

About the Role

We run a growing fleet of non-emergency medical transport vehicles. The work matters; people rely on us to get to appointments they can’t miss.

Like most companies in this space, too much maintenance happens after something breaks. We’re changing that.

We’re building an in-house system that keeps vehicles on the road, catches problems early, and reduces reliance on outside shops.

This role is for someone who wants to be part of that; not just doing the work, but helping build something that works better over time.

What This Role Actually Is

This is a hands-on mechanic role with real responsibility over how the fleet runs.

To start, you’ll have structure and direction.
Over time, you’ll be expected to take more ownership as you grow into the role.

You’ll be doing the core work yourself:

  • Brakes, suspension, oil changes, fluids, and general maintenance
  • Factory Scheduled Repairs
  • Diagnosing issues when something feels off
  • Handling most day-to-day repairs in-house

As you get more familiar with the fleet, the role expands:

  • Looking across vehicles and asking, “why is this happening?”
  • Helping decide what should be handled in-house vs sent out
  • Stepping into tougher jobs and figuring them out as you go

You don’t need to know everything walking in.
But you do need to be capable, curious, and willing to grow into ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance (oil, brakes, suspension, inspections)
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues
  • Keep vehicles safe, clean, and ready for daily service
  • Identify repeat issues and help address root causes
  • Assist in building and maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule
  • Communicate clearly about what needs to be fixed now vs later
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and tools
  • Take on increasing responsibility as you learn the fleet

What We’re Looking For

  • Solid mechanical experience (professional or personal)
  • Comfortable doing brakes, suspension, and general maintenance
  • Able to diagnose problems, not just replace parts
  • Willing to learn and take on more complex repairs over time
  • Works independently and grows into taking initiative
  • Takes pride in doing things the right way

Solid working knowledge of common shop tools and how to use them, including:

  • Basic hand tools (ratchets, sockets, wrenches)
  • Power tools (impact, drill, grinder)
  • Jacks and jack stands (safe lifting practices)
  • Air Compressor
  • Hydraulic Lifts
  • Brake and suspension tools
  • Basic diagnostic tools (OBD2 scanner)
  • Basic electrical tools and troubleshooting (test light, multimeter, wiring repairs)

You don’t need to know everything, but you should be comfortable picking up a tool and figuring things out.

Common Work You’ll Be Doing

This is the type of work you can expect to handle regularly:

  • Oil changes and fluid services (coolant, transmission, brakes, etc.)
  • Brake jobs (pads, rotors, basic brake system work)
  • Suspension work (shocks, struts, control arms, ball joints, etc.)
  • Tune-ups (spark plugs, ignition coils)
  • Fuel system work (fuel injectors, basic fuel system diagnostics)
  • Battery, starter, and alternator replacement
  • Diagnosing drivability issues (rough idle, misfires, noises, vibrations)
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting (lights, wiring issues, simple faults)
  • General inspections and preventative maintenance

Certifications are not required.

You’ll be working alongside someone with mechanical experience who can provide guidance when needed. What matters more is that you can handle the basics on your own and are willing to learn and grow into the role.

Schedule & Pay

  • ~30–40 hours per week (flexible based on workload)
  • $20 per hour to start, first re-evaluation after 120 Days

This role is designed to grow.

Pay increases to $25-$30 and beyond are based on your ability to take on more responsibility, work independently, and contribute to how the fleet is maintained over time.

Some weeks will be steady routine maintenance and inspections.
Some weeks will involve more troubleshooting or larger repairs.

Hiring Process

We’re not focused on resumes.

We’ll talk through real-world scenarios and have you walk us through how you think about diagnosing and fixing problems.

Final Note

If you’re looking to clock in and be told what to do every step of the way, this probably isn’t the right fit.

If you want to build your skills, take on more responsibility over time, and eventually help own how a fleet runs, we should talk.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply

Work Location: In person
