The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing company vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment while supporting safe and efficient yard operations. This includes diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues, maintaining service records, overseeing parts inventory, and assisting with yard and facility upkeep when not performing repairs. A Class B CDL is not required but is preferred, or candidates must have the willingness to obtain one. Travel will involve occasional emergency road calls and periodic training sessions with our lead mechanic at the Quarryville location, as needed.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Respond quickly to routine and urgent maintenance requests.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel engine issues.
  • Perform emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, inspections, and safety checks.
  • Maintain detailed service records and accurate parts inventory.
  • Communicate repair status and timelines with fleet management.
  • Assist in maintaining an organized, safe, and efficient yard environment.
  • Support small landscaping and facility upkeep tasks during downtime.
  • Train and support operators on minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and industry best practices.
  • Proactive Reporting: Promptly report any issues that may impact the company or its employees to management upon discovery.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical/trade school).
  • 5 + years of experience preferred
  • Experience with diesel trucks, hydro-excavation units, GapVax, or industrial vacuum equipment is a plus.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to safely operate standard tools, diagnostic equipment, loaders, and yard machinery.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Class B CDL preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Be capable of repetitive activities such as lifting, stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching. Physically able to lift heavy parts, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and travel to job sites as needed with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must provide basic tools (specialty equipment will be supplied).
  • Teamwork and Independence: Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Compliance with Company Policies: Must consent to motor vehicle and criminal background checks where permitted by law, and adhere to the company’s drug-free workplace policy.
