Job Description


The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for overseeing all aspects of vehicle maintenance, repair, and compliance across GCT’s transportation systems, supporting a 45+ shuttle and executive luxury operation. This role ensures vehicle safety, reliability, and full DOT/FMCSA compliance while maintaining 24/7/365 operational readiness.


The Fleet Mechanic serves as the primary technical resource for all vehicle-related issues and works closely with operations leadership to minimize downtime, coordinate repairs, and optimize system performance.


This is a hands-on, safety-critical role requiring strong diagnostic ability, leadership, and the ability to manage maintenance operations in a fast-paced transportation environment.


Responsibilities


Maintenance & Repair

  • Oversee all maintenance and repair operations across GCT’s transportation systems, including shuttles, buses, executive sedans, SUVs, and vans
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules to ensure reliability and minimize downtime
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel-related issues across all vehicle types
  • Coordinate mobile repair services and manage relationships with external vendors and service providers
  • Manage parts inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships to ensure timely repairs and cost efficiency
  • Ensure all vehicles are consistently maintained to operational and safety standards

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all vehicles meet DOT/FMCSA safety and compliance standards at all times
  • Review and verify Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) submitted via the Motive platform
  • Maintain comprehensive maintenance records, inspection logs, and compliance documentation
  • Coordinate annual inspections, emissions testing, and required regulatory inspections
  • Respond to and document vehicle-related incidents or accidents for insurance and safety reporting
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and best practices

Team Leadership & Operations Support

  • Supervise and coordinate maintenance technicians and mobile mechanics
  • Provide training and mentorship on repair procedures, safety standards, and operational best practices
  • Work closely with operations and shift managers to prioritize repairs and maintain vehicle availability
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and coordinate roadside assistance when needed
  • Coordinate with mobile fuel and vehicle cleaning service providers to support daily operations
  • Support continuous operational readiness for 24/7 service

Administrative & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed maintenance logs and service records for all vehicles
  • Prepare and submit reports on vehicle status, repair costs, and overall system performance
  • Manage maintenance budgets and track expenses to improve efficiency
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities across maintenance operations
  • Coordinate warranty claims and insurance documentation for vehicle damage or defects
  • Utilize fleet management systems (e.g., Motive) to track vehicle health and maintenance needs

Requirements


  • 5+ years of experience as a diesel or automotive mechanic, including supervisory experience
  • Personal maintenance truck and tools preferred
  • ASE certifications preferred; CDL Class B license or ability to obtain within 90 days preferred
  • Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA vehicle compliance and inspection requirements
  • Experience working with motorcoaches, Blue Bird activity buses, Starcraft mini coaches, Ford Transits, Mercedes vehicles, Van Terras, Ford Expeditions, and Volvo vehicles strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to train and mentor technicians
  • Proficiency with fleet management software and computer-based diagnostic tools
  • Ability to prioritize multiple repair projects and effectively manage emergency situations
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to coordinate with operations staff and external vendors
  • Must be able to work in a 24/7/365 operational environment, including on-call availability for emergency repairs
  • Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed to support business demands
  • Ability to respond to urgent maintenance needs and vehicle breakdowns outside of standard business hours
  • Comfortable working in a workshop and field environment, including physical activity such as lifting, bending, and use of tools
  • Ability to work extended hours during vehicle emergencies or critical maintenance periods
  • Availability for on-call emergency repairs as required
  • Ability to support operations across multiple locations, including primary facility and Dorchester shuttle yard
