Floor Manager for Dispensary in Chelsea

Who we are

Chelsea Cannabis Co. is a CAURD-licensed adult-use cannabis dispensary in Chelsea, Manhattan. We opened in early 2025 and grew 258% in our first year by doing things most dispensaries are not doing: curating product with genuine taste, building a real community, and competing on relationship rather than price in a market that rewards the stores people actually want to come back to.

We are open Sunday through Tuesday until midnight and Wednesday through Saturday until 2am. This is a late-night, high-volume, fast-moving environment. The right person for this role will find that energizing, not exhausting.

THE ROLE

The Floor Manager is the operational backbone of the store. This is not an administrative role.

What owning the floor actually means

It means you walk in and the staff calibrates. Not because they are afraid of you but because they know you will notice, you will care, and you will say something specific and useful rather than something vague and forgettable. It means a customer escalation gets handled before the GM hears about it. It means the closing checklist gets done correctly because the standard is yours, not just something posted on a wall. It means a new budtender gets a redirect in thirty seconds between customers rather than a twenty-minute debrief at the end of a shift.

You are the person in the room when the GM is not. The store should run the same way whether the GM is present or not. That is the job.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Day-to-day floor operations

  • Own real-time enforcement of SOPs and operational standards across every shift you run
  • Serve as the first escalation point for staff questions, customer issues, and operational problems
  • Monitor budtender performance in the moment and deliver immediate, specific feedback
  • Manage shift flow, pacing, and floor positioning for maximum efficiency and customer experience
  • Ensure opening and closing procedures are executed completely and correctly every time
  • Maintain compliance standards throughout every shift — cannabis retail has zero tolerance for shortcuts

Staff development

  • Coach budtenders using specific behavioral feedback, not generic encouragement
  • Identify individual performance gaps and work with the GM to address them systematically
  • Model the standard you are enforcing — the floor reflects your behavior, not just your instructions
  • Support onboarding of new staff by demonstrating how the store actually operates, not how it is supposed to operate on paper

Operational integrity

  • Track register variance, cash handling procedures, and end-of-shift reconciliation with precision
  • Flag inventory discrepancies, product issues, or compliance concerns immediately rather than hoping someone else notices
  • Coordinate with the GM on scheduling, coverage decisions, and staffing adjustments
  • Support delivery coordination when needed, ensuring order accuracy before anything leaves the store

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You communicate concisely and on purpose

You can say what needs to be said in the time available to say it. A coaching moment between customers is thirty seconds. A de-escalation with a difficult customer is two minutes. A shift briefing is five. You do not over-explain, you do not soften things into uselessness, and you do not mistake length for thoroughness. You read the room before you speak and you stop when you are done.

You have genuine self-awareness

You know how you land with people. You know when a conversation went well and when it did not. You adjust. You can receive feedback without becoming defensive and you can give it without becoming cruel. You have a realistic sense of your own strengths and your own edges, and you do not confuse confidence with competence.

You think about the specific situation in front of you, not the generic version of it

Chelsea Cannabis Co. is not a generic dispensary and Chelsea, Manhattan is not a generic neighborhood. We need someone who looks at what is actually in front of them and figures out what that specific situation requires, not someone who applies the same playbook regardless of context. Curiosity and the ability to form an original read on a situation matter as much as technical knowledge.

You hold the standard without alienating the people who meet it

You earn authority through demonstrated competence and consistent behavior, not through title or volume. You can hold a high performer to a standard they find fair because you apply it to yourself first.

You are comfortable in a fast, unstructured, late-night environment

We close at midnight on slower nights and 2am on the weekend. The energy at 11pm on a Friday is different from the energy at noon on a Tuesday and both require management. You do not need an office, a fixed schedule, or someone checking in on you to stay sharp. You manage your own energy and you show up the same way regardless of the hour.

EXPERIENCE WE VALUE

We care more about how you think and how you operate than about where you have been. That said, the following backgrounds tend to produce the specific capabilities we need.

  • Cannabis retail management — you have run a floor, held staff accountable, and managed the compliance requirements of a licensed operation. Direct experience matters here.
  • High-volume food and beverage management — bar management, restaurant floor management, or hospitality operations where you were responsible for team performance under pressure translate directly to this environment.
  • Retail management in a fast-moving, customer-facing environment where you owned standards rather than just observed them.

We are less interested in:

  • Titles without demonstrated responsibility. Tell us what you actually did, not what your title was.
  • Long resumes with broad skill lists. We will ask you to walk us through a specific situation you managed and how you handled it. That conversation matters more than anything on paper.

SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION

This is a full-time role. Shifts are five days per week and include evenings and weekends. We are open until midnight Sunday through Tuesday and 2am Wednesday through Saturday. Coverage of late-night and weekend shifts is a core expectation of the role, not an exception.

Compensation is competitive for the NYC cannabis market and reflects the scope of the role. It will be discussed in the interview process and determined based on experience and fit.

HOW TO APPLY

Send a resume and a brief note — not a cover letter, a note — that answers two questions: what specifically draws you to this role at this store, and describe a situation where you had to hold a standard with someone who was already performing well. How did you approach it and what happened?

We will not respond to applications that do not answer both questions. Not because we are trying to be difficult but because both questions reveal something the resume cannot: whether you have thought specifically about us, and whether you have actual behavioral experience to draw from. Generic answers to either question tell us what we need to know.

If your application stands out, you will hear from us within three business days. The interview process is direct and fast. We are not looking for a long process. We are looking for the right person.
