About the Role:

The Floor Technician plays a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of commercial and business environments. This position is responsible for performing a variety of floor care tasks including cleaning, polishing, waxing, and repairing different types of flooring materials to ensure they meet company standards. The Floor Technician will work closely with facility management to schedule and execute maintenance routines that minimize disruption to business operations. Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are essential to prevent accidents and maintain a professional environment. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to creating a welcoming and hygienic space that supports the overall business image and employee well-being.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in floor care or janitorial services is preferred.
  • Ability to operate floor care equipment safely and effectively.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their proper use.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in floor care or maintenance from a recognized institution.
  • Experience working in a commercial or business services environment.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and compliance.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members and management.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for minor equipment repairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of various floor surfaces such as tile, hardwood, carpet, and vinyl using appropriate equipment and cleaning agents.
  • Apply floor finishes, waxes, and sealants to protect and enhance the appearance of floors according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Inspect floors regularly to identify areas requiring repair or special attention and report any damage or safety hazards to management.
  • Operate and maintain floor care machinery including buffers, scrubbers, and extractors, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use personal protective equipment to maintain a safe working environment for self and others.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Floor Technician to efficiently and safely perform daily cleaning and maintenance tasks, ensuring floors are clean, polished, and free of hazards. Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment operation is essential for selecting the right products and tools for each floor type, which helps in preserving floor integrity and appearance. Physical stamina and manual dexterity are used daily to handle equipment and perform repetitive tasks without compromising quality. Preferred skills such as certification and familiarity with safety standards enhance the technician’s ability to work compliantly and troubleshoot minor issues independently. Effective communication skills facilitate coordination with supervisors and team members, ensuring maintenance schedules are met and any concerns are promptly addressed.
