Job Title: Fresh Floral Designer

Position Supervisor: Director of Innovation

Pay Grade: Full-time, hourly (non-exempt)

Job Summary:

The Floral Designer will use a creative eye to compose arrangements. You may work with fresh flowers and plants. As a Fresh Floral designer, you will process and cut new flowers, transplant plants, mix plant or flower food solutions, fill containers with the food solutions, and sanitize workspaces. You will also be able to stage store areas and work with customers.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensuring that flowers are properly watered, conditioned, and stored to maintain quality and prevent wilting.
  • Selecting and arranging flowers and decorative items to create both standard and customized floral designs.
  • Conducting client consultations for individual arrangements and events to determine preferences, themes, budgets, and timelines.
  • Providing creative guidance and professional recommendations based on client needs and current floral trends.
  • Serving in-store and phone customers with exceptional customer service and accurately processing payments.
  • Managing time efficiently to complete daily design orders, large events, and retail floor displays within established deadlines.
  • Ordering and receiving fresh flowers and supplies from wholesalers and growers as needed.
  • Monitoring and maintaining accurate records of floral arrangement orders, inventory, special requests, shrink, and delivery information.
  • Advising customers on the proper care and maintenance of floral products.
  • Assisting with merchandising and maintaining an attractive, well-organized, and clean sales floor to enhance the customer experience.
  • Identifying opportunities to reduce waste and maximize product use through creative repurposing of materials and flowers.

Secondary Duties and Functions:

  • Assists with setup, delivery, and breakdown of floral installations and event décor.
  • Supports daily store operations including cleaning, restocking, labeling, and product rotation.
  • Participates in planning and decorating for in-store events, promotions, and seasonal displays.
  • Collaborates with the team to develop new product ideas, arrangement templates, and pricing strategies.
  • Shares design concepts and arrangement suggestions for customer orders (e.g., weddings, funerals, anniversaries, holidays).
  • Stays informed of current floral industry trends, design techniques, and best practices through ongoing learning and training.
  • Contributes to team meetings and discussions on workflow efficiency, customer satisfaction, and store improvement.
  • Assists management with inventory audits and tracking of supply usage and costs.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required to ensure the success of the store and team.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certification from the American Institute of Floral Designers is advantageous.
  • Proven floral design experience.
  • Sound knowledge of different flower types, arrangement styles, and conditioning.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Artistic and creative.
  • Detail-oriented.

Licensing or other requirements:

1. Valid driver's license with clean DMV record.

2. Must be at least 21 years of age.

Working Conditions:
The duties for this position are normally conducted in a store environment. You will be asked to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. Some holidays may require extended hours. There is exposure to dirt, noise, dangerous chemicals/solvents, dampness, and temperature extremes.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:
Standard tools and equipment used in a floral environment include a computer, underwater cutter, wire cutter, pricing gun, scissors, knives, pick machine, register system, hydration system, and telephone.
