The Facilities Management (FM) Engineer is responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and reliable operation of buildings and their systems. While duties may vary depending on the organization and type of facility, the role typically includes the following responsibilities:

  • Supervising the operation and maintenance of building systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and civil works.
  • Developing and executing preventive maintenance plans to ensure optimal equipment performance and extend asset lifespan.
  • Monitoring energy consumption and implementing strategies to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Identifying and recommending energy-saving initiatives and modern, energy-efficient technologies.
  • Ensuring full compliance with safety standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinating with internal departments—operations, administration, and others—to support their facility-related needs.
  • Assessing technical issues and preparing proposals for maintenance work, repairs, and property enhancements.
  • Tracking maintenance-related expenses and identifying opportunities for cost optimization.
  • Overseeing Building Management Systems (BMS) and other facility technologies used for monitoring and control.
  • Liaising with external contractors and vendors to ensure timely and quality delivery of services.
  • Managing service agreements and evaluating vendor performance against contractual expectations.
  • Preparing and updating emergency response plans for situations such as fire, natural disasters, or security incidents.
  • Maintaining effective communication with building occupants to address concerns and ensure satisfaction.
  • Participating in the planning and management of facility budgets.
