FME Specialist

Role Overview

The candidate will be a highly skilled FME Specialist with strong technical expertise in data transformation, automation, and integration within geospatial environments. The candidate will have an extensive experience building and optimizing complex data workflows using Safe Software's FME Platform (FME Form and FME Flow) and possess understanding of GIS systems, APIs, databases, and cloud-based data solutions.

This role is suited for a technology-driven professional who can bridge the gap between spatial data engineering and enterprise system integration.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand the business requirements and design an optimized, scalable, secure FME Flow environments (including HA, integration with enterprise systems, and performance tuning of engines and queues) to support missioncritical geospatial data workflows.
• Design, develop, and maintain advanced FME workflows for automated data translation, validation, and integration.
• Architect scalable data pipelines connecting multiple systems such as ArcGIS, spatial databases (PostGIS, Oracle Spatial, SQL Server), and REST APIs.
• Integrate FME Flow into enterprise processes for scheduled or event-driven automation.
• Understanding of custom transformations using Python, FME transformers, or REST API calls.
• Optimize performance of large-scale ETL processes and implement data quality checks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support cloud migration, data warehousing, and geospatial analytics initiatives.
• Administer and monitor FME Flow deployments, managing user permissions, job scheduling, and server utilization.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and suggest improvements to the automation ecosystem.

Required Technical Skills

• Expert-level proficiency in FME Form and FME Flow.
• Advanced SQL skills with experience in PostGIS, Oracle Spatial, or similar relational databases.
• Strong understanding of spatial data models, coordinate systems, and geoprocessing workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

• Safe Software FME Certified Professional or Trainer.
• Experience integrating FME with enterprise business systems.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and performance tuning capabilities.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions with stakeholders.
• Strong foundation in Python scripting, JSON/XML handling, and REST API integration.
• Hands-on experience with ArcGIS Platform.

Educational Background

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geospatial Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Technology.
• Additional coursework or certifications in data engineering, automation, or cloud technologies is a plus.
