Restaurant Host / Hostess

Job Description:

The Thayer Hotel has a busy fine dining restaurant and two bars that have an open role for host / hostess. You will greet guests as they enter and show them to their table. You will also engage with guests to ensure their meal is as good as it should be. To do well in this role you should be comfortable standing for long periods and managing a very busy shift.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Greeting guests as they enter one of our spaces.
  • Seating guests at tables, providing guests with menus and answering any initial questions.
  • Assigning guests to tables they prefer, while keeping table rotation in mind so that servers receive the right number of guests.
  • Engaging with guests to ensure they're happy with food and service.
  • Responding to complaints and helping to resolve them.
  • Answering phone calls, taking reservations and answering questions.
  • A knowledge of the menu.
  • Helping out with other positions in the restaurant as needed.
  • Providing great customer service.
  • Helping out with other positions in one of our restaurant or lounge spaces when needed.
  • Must be available for weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications:

  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic team player.
  • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

Food & Beverage Server

Job Description:

The Thayer Hotel is looking for energetic and guest-centric servers who will be responsible for taking orders from and serving food to our guests. Duties will mostly include taking food and drink orders and ensuring that tables are served properly and that all payments are collected.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepares room for dining by clothing tables and setting decorations, condiments, candles, napkins, service plates, and utensils.
  • Protects establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation, safety, and alcohol beverage control policies.
  • Helps patrons select food and beverages by presenting menu; offering cocktails and aperitifs; suggesting courses; explaining the chef's specialties; identifying appropriate wines; answering food preparation questions.
  • Transmits orders to bar and kitchen by recording patrons' choices; identifying patrons' special dietary needs and special requests.
  • Keeps kitchen staff informed by noting timing of meal progression.
  • Serves orders by picking up and delivering patrons' choices from bar and kitchen; delivering accompaniments and condiments from service bars.
  • Responds to additional patron requirements by inquiring of needs; observing dining process.
  • Maintains table setting by removing courses as completed; replenishing utensils; refilling water glasses; being alert to patron spills or other special needs.
  • Concludes dining experience by acknowledging choice of restaurant; inviting patrons to return.
  • Obtains revenues by totaling charges; issuing bill; accepting payment; delivering bill and payment to host/hostess; returning change or credit card and signature slip to patrons.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Food & Beverage Server Assistant

Job Description:

The Thayer Hotel is looking for hardworking and dedicated server assistants to help our servers and ensure that tables are cleared, cleaned, and properly set for our guests. The server assistant’s responsibilities include preparing and refilling beverages, assisting servers with processing payments, removing trash, and sanitizing restaurant menus. You should also be able to perform end-of-day clean-up duties.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver food to restaurant patrons, carrying trays, filling water glasses.
  • Ensuring all orders arrive to the tables in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Efficiently clearing and cleaning tables during dining service.
  • Resetting tables after each dining guest.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and customer areas and returning plates, silverware, glasses etc. to the kitchen.
  • Responsible for working with Banquets Department and having leadership presence in the other outlets on property, to include banquet events.

Bartender – Zulu Time Rooftop Bar

Job Description:
The Thayer Hotel is seeking multiple bartenders to join our team at Zulu Time Rooftop Bar, one of the Hudson Valley’s most unique rooftop experiences overlooking the Hudson River and the United States Military Academy at West Point. In this role, you will prepare and serve beverages while creating a welcoming and energetic atmosphere for guests enjoying the rooftop setting. You will interact directly with guests at the bar and work closely with the restaurant team to ensure service runs smoothly during busy shifts and special events. To succeed in this role, you should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, multitasking during peak service periods, and delivering excellent hospitality.

Primary Responsibilities:
Preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to established recipes and standards.
Greeting guests at the bar and creating a welcoming rooftop experience.
Taking beverage and food orders and entering them accurately into the POS system.
Maintaining knowledge of the cocktail menu, wine list, beer selections, and seasonal rooftop drink offerings.
Engaging with guests to ensure they are enjoying their experience at Zulu Time Rooftop.
Checking identification to verify legal drinking age and following all alcohol service regulations.
Maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked bar throughout the shift.
Handling cash and processing payments accurately.
Responding to guest concerns and helping to resolve them quickly and professionally.
Working closely with servers and other restaurant staff to support smooth service.
Assisting with opening and closing duties including restocking, cleaning, and preparing the rooftop bar for service.
Providing excellent customer service at all times.
Must be available for weekends, holidays, and evening shifts.

Required Qualifications:
Previous bartending or bar service experience preferred.
Knowledge of common cocktails, beer, wine, and bar service standards.
Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
Enthusiastic and energetic team player.
Must be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work efficiently in a busy rooftop environment during peak service periods.
